I am wondering at one point she says to iron your piece on the wrong side. What I don't know is, is that just to make them nice and flat or is it to set the acrylic paint. Does anyone know if yo need to iron the fabric to set the paint? I want to try dying a few of the pieces and don't want the paint to wash away.

I don't think you need worry. Once the paint has dried fully, you can't wash it away. It's one of the problems with acrylic paint (trying to get it out of where you don't want it) but one of it's benefits for crafting. It may be that ironing it on the wrong side will help it to dry more quickly and also to make sure that there are no creases where the paint is, though I have never had any problem with ironing creases out of painted fabrics. I have actually used diluted acrylic paint as a dye before now. Depending upon the dilution, the paint will also stiffen the fabric - the bigger the ratio of paint to water the stiffer the fabric. Lots of possibilities there.

I agree, the paint won't wash out once dry. If you use "textile" paint, many times the instructions say to iron to set the paint.
