Hello! My son's 5th birthday is coming up, and I am here scratching my head for party bag fillers that won't cost me too much, will arrive in time (delivery delays and hiking delivery charges), won't compromise my carbon footprint too much (I don't like too much plastic) and, last but not least, will make the kids happy! I am seriously thinking about needle felting something VERY easy and fast to make: tonight I made a sample of the very first idea that came into my mind. Must be unisex (can't be bothered with making named wrapping or having crying children because they did not get the "boys" one) , and a bit funny, because my son has a funny streak in him. What do you think? www.dropbox.com/s/isulazy7mnmsexk/img_20211006_215158.jpg?dl=0I think it might work in different colours, but I am worried that I might get bored after the first 10..I will need at least 30 or more accounting for siblings that may come to the party! Any good idea for other very very very easy shapes that may be on the same level (so as not to give a child something much better than what I give to another child)? Thanks!!

Love it! What a great party bag gift. Yes, other colours would be fun too. The only other easy shape that springs to mind is perhaps a smiley face?

I don't envy you - a party for 10 over excited children would be bad enough - but 30? The mind boggles. Also I've never "got" the current idea of giving presents (of whatever size) to the kids who come to the party, when you've gone to the trouble to organise a party for them and to feed them, let alone some of the entertainment organised for them to enjoy (quite often involving exorbitant cost I understand). We were happy just to have been invited and to make do with cake, jelly and custard, followed by "hunt the thimble", "pass the parcel" and "blind man's buff"! Anyway, to your party bag, you could increase production by making some thick wet felt, almost completely fulled, and cutting out your shapes so that you only have to finish the cut edges and then needlefelt in the faces. Lots of colours I think would be good, but whether that would stop the little dears comparing their haul of goodies I don't know.

Yes, Ann, I am with you that expectations on hosts of children's parties have become crazy! I would like to organise a scavenger hunt at the park, so the kids make their own inexpensive entertainment and the more the merrier. Hopefully, I will team with another birthday mum for the food, and I wish to keep to a quality-rather-than-quantity standard for the party bags. At that age, kids are overjoyed for a pencil or some dinosaur stickers, they are not that jaundiced by tons of toys as they become later on, luckily, so a soft toy star should be enough of a surprise, I hope. Thank you for the tip on speeding production, it may do the trick and get me to the finish line on time!

I agree with Ann that cutting out the shapes from a larger piece of wet felt. Best of luck.

the other thing if you want to needlefelt them is to use a star shapped cookie-cutter and felt in side it.

Yes, I thought about it, but the star shaped cookie cutters that I have at home are all pretty small, so I think that I will not use that technique, I don't really want to buy new cookie cutters.

They are such fun and will bring a smile to a child's face! Lovely colours and I like the addition of the hair to the faces.

Those are adorable, they should be a real hit in the party bags.
