Jan has done a lot of research on armatures and the best way to get the initial attachment of wool wrap to stick. While idly browsing The Makerss website I came across this page www.themakerss.co.uk/collections/wax/products/beeswax-balm-for-shaping-claws-and-beaks . I haven't tried this, but I wonder what Jan and the rest of you think of the idea? It sounds a bit mucky to me, but thinking about it, once you've done the wrap and then needled more fibre on top it should be ok. Also if your needles do get waxed, it'll help stop them going rusty. It sounds as though it smells nice too!

Interesting idea. I haven't tried it at all. I'm not sure Jan visits here very often but perhaps Ann M. can tell her about it. It looks similar to the stuff I use on my hands for dry skin which we discussed before.

I think I saw on one of the reviews that a buyer expected it to be like lip balm but found it more like candle! Either way, if you use it for moulding fibres for beaks etc., as suggested, it should help keep the hands soft.

Now this sounds interesting. I'm sure Jan would found this interesting. Is she the same Jan who lives in Canada?
On a side note, I did a recent study group with Jan and 3 others to study different gg wires for armatures. It was great and I learned a lot from Jan.

I don't know if she's seen this thread yet though.

Hi its that jan from canada. i have a box of wax to investigate (i still have a cuple more wire samples to do first since the wire just came in) i have collected a number of itums - a mug warmer, and 2 aromatic oil tea candle warmers (thankyou Value village!) - 2 of Sara R's wax products Tacky Wrap and Swax - 100% white Beeswax in small pellets for candle makeing - crayons a box of 64 colours from the thrift store - nylon wedge brushes as wax aplicators (aliexpress) i also have 2 types of mod podge and a tacky glue for sewing and crafts. but that is for other serfus experimentation. -i have parifin downstairs i can take a bit from. i will need to pick up mineral oil and ukiliptis.
i also have the wax from the tea lights which will be harder like the parifin.
for working through the wax after aplication, i suspect it will be posible for bees wax or lip balms but yes it will likly get onto the needle like when i felted the hedgehog soap of love (yes he got named crevis...) this was not a big problem since i was useing a needle with a farly agressive barb for a fainer needle with a smaller notch to pick up the wool this may reduce the amount of wool you are attaching or lifting (revers needle).
there is alos the abuility to change the charictoristics of the wax by useig an additive as we did for wax bath treatments in hydrotherapy (yes wax was considered a hydro treatment so was dry brush which i like the best becous it felt wonderfull and had no watter. Bitzgust was the worst of the hydor treatments i dont remember it since i kind of blacked out. -hydrophobia and hydrotherapy are containdications of treatment. so the rest of the class got to see a bad reaction to almost all the treatments. it was basicly a torture jan class.) sorry got distracted and into a rant.

Following a lip balm recipe and varying the amounts of additives might be a way to go.
