Well where did April go? I am still working on my roll up pouch. I finished the back and now have to do the inside top flap. To that end I have ordered some heat erasable markers. I don't think I can do my design without lines to follow. they should be in early next week and I can get started. Today's dose is just looking at things for inspiratory on pinterest.

I took Judit Pocs’s milkweed sculpture workshop over the weekend as I was really keen to learn her pleated silk technique. It was fun & informative. Today I was intending to make a background for a bird picture (a redshank) but couldn’t resist trying out a much smaller piece using the pleat technique to make a neck piece. It’s drying on the radiator. It’s ok. The next one will be better. I really must get on with that redshank picture....

It’s drying on the radiator. It’s ok. The next one will be better. I really must get on with that redshank picture.... That sounds definitely worthy of a post, hope we'll get to see it. I'm particularly interested to see what the pleated silk looks like. I borrowed a smocking pleating machine a few years ago and ran some pieces of silk through it. The gathers were to be steam set, but it was so long ago that I can't remember if I got that far before I was on to the next thing. I came across the pieces a few weeks ago when I was looking for something else (as you do), now all I have to do is remember what I was going to do with them! My daily dose for the past few days has been to finish mounting a felt wall hanging which I have made for some friends who are about to (re)open a brasserie, (again). They had got it ready to open last year immediately before our 1st lock down. The design is based on their wallpaper. I must remember to take a photo of it before it goes to them. My second "dose" is a textile memory board to be sold in our local Museum shop which is due to reopen next month. My friend's workshop is to open on 13th May, so I'll have 5 hours in one go to spend on my Glorious Devon "painting", so that will give me something to post about. Ann

Like Lindsay, I too did the Judit Pócs Milkweed seed workshop and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was also lovely having a friend exploring the same technique allowing us to exchange notes after. Having seen her piece as a photo & on Zoom I can confirm all her hard work has produced a fabulous sculpture.
I've since created another seed using a different design but will explore the pleating technique further on a different project.
If you get opportunity to do the workshop - go for it.

As Antje says, it was great having a felting buddy to chat to about the workshop and I can confirm Antje’s sculpture was gorgeous. She’s been keeping the others from me though so I’m wondering if she has a blog post coming up soon!
Yesterday I did make my picture background and today I’ve been needle felting the redshank onto its background then adding legs, beak, eye etc. I find it difficult to know when to stop adding detail to the bird. I think maybe just a little more........
