I have been checking here daily over the last few days, and no new topics or entries posted. Just wondering if a giant rabbit hole has swallowed everyone??

It's not unusual. We have lots of members but not many participate. I think many people aren't comfortable with this type of forum format. But when we suggested perhaps closing it down and just "get together" on Facebook, many members objected. So we keep it going so all the information is still available. We would love to have more members participate, so if you have any ideas about that, please let us know.

I was just thinking that everything had gone quiet too. It may be because, at least in the UK, lockdown is easing so that people are getting out more and spending less time in the workshop or on line. Certainly I'd rather participate here than on facebook. I'm afraid I won't touch that with a barge pole because you hear so many bad things about social media, I just don't trust it. Hopefully, all the external stimulation will start us chatting again soon. Ann

The better weather is one reason people slow down on making stuff - the good weather beckons us all into the garden!

I love the forum and its format, but admit I don't check in regularly - it's a time factor mainly. I wonder if time-limiting threads might focus peoples minds on more regular checks on subjects of interest? It may be that the plethora of YouTube 'tutorials' means those new to felting are looking elsewhere for their guidance rather than relying on 'old hands' for advice? Sorry not to be more help - these are just thoughts. I'd be happy with a FB group, but of course not everyone is on FB and I'm not sure what would be involved in transporting all the wonderful hints and tips here to a new platform.

I'm not sure time limiting them would be a good idea, because then we'd not have access to all the interesting conversations that have gone on in the past. I have whiled away quite some time going down the rabbit hole of old posts! I've got my "notifications" set up so that I get an email whenever there is a new post, so I don't need to do a daily check, but even so, once I've read the latest post on the Studio I usually click on the "Forum" link and do a quick check in case there's something I've missed. I realise that having these notifications arrive too frequently can be a bit annoying, but you can make them daily rather than instant, or even weekly (or smart, but I don't know what that means). Hello. I have been doing a bit of felting in the weekends, as I can not do it during the week, putting in practice some of the tips learned from the forum and daring new things: all beginner very simple stuff, I am afraid, and I do not feel confident to show it. Some of it did not come out very well, some was fine but very simple: for instance, I dared add a little bit of silk over my wool or I tried a different layout to make a simple very short poncho, nothing strange.
That is why I have been checking on new posts frequently, but not adding more.
P.s. Thank you for enlightening me on proper rubbing: now that I am doing it properly, my scarves are becoming much more uniformly made, and the process is much less tiring and more enjoyable. I am also doing a lot less rolling, and using bubblewrap sparingly. Moreover, I understood that you do not need as much water as I thought earlier, nor that it must be very hot, but more soap than I thought previously. I feel I am on the right path, thanks to your kind support and tips.

The felting journey never ends - there's always something new to learn - and you can never guarantee the result you want especially when trying something different. But that's what makes it fun! This forum and the forum's blog is a treasure trove of knowledge that we can all use.

I enjoy the forum, and I check in most evenings, and this is when I catch in on here and the studio. I don't look during the day generally, otherwise nothing would get done! I don't use Facebook. I do enjoy going down the rabbit hole when I am looking up something on here.

Also some of our best conversations start with what went wrong.

I am very new to felting and have found the forum to be a great resource (and when I have posted, people have been brilliant at replying). Really hoping the forum continues 😊.

Hi. I've just joined and posted my first post. I think the forum is a great idea and for me, as a newbie, I can't wait to spend some time reading through your old posts. There is so much to learn. What I have seen of other's work on your site so far is fab. I have been butterflying from one technique to another and would love to have some feedback on what I'm doing and which direction to go in. I am hoping to find some way of sharing my own work with you and would appreciate your advice on the best way to do this. I am also an artist and have a website and Instagram for my drawings but as yet I have not decided how to share my felting. Would a Facebook page be a good idea?

Lots of people use Facebook, you can even sell from FB now. You can share photos here as long as the photo is stored somewhere else. So FB, Instagram, a blog or website or a photo storage site such as Dropbox all work.
