Hi all, I just wondered how people are storing their needle felting equipment and wool? I’d love some suggestions on storage ideas. Thanks!

I have 2 containers for my needles. One is a triangular tube with a lid and the other is a round one with a lid. I got the round one at a dollar store. it was full of small erasers. the triangle one was part of a bulk buy when I sold needles years ago. I like them because they do not roll. Then I put them and my odds and ends into a makeup bag. My wool I usually have in zip lock bags in various sizes that go into a canvas bag or basket when I am travelling. My large amounts of wool are in bags in bins to keep the moths away.

I use a couple of the large square tube containers which the large quantity of No 36 needles came in from Wingham Wool Work (I buy most of my needles from them). One I use to hold all the various sizes I may need for a project. (I colour code my needles with nail varnish so that it doesn't matter about having them all together) The other one still holds the large number of 36 needles which my husband shortens for me to use in my Babylock Embellisher. I have one of the smaller "Really Useful" Plastic boxes with clip closures and I use this for the equipment I need for a particular project - it contains my tube of mixed needles; my various needle holders/handles; a pair of mini carders (actually dog combs which I bought for £1 each!) which I use for blending colours of fibres; a smaller container for "sharps" - broken needles; a needle case with all sorts of needles and some all purpose scissors; a pair of small pliers and a pair of small wire snips for armatures; some strong thread; a piece of beeswax for the thread; 2 pairs of leather finger and thumb protectors; a pair of fine point tweezers and a pair of chisel point tweezers; and lastly a small weighted plastic container with fleece in it which I use to hold the needles currently in use while I'm working. I carry the plastic box in a zip up case (it used to hold a car cover and has clear plastic front and back); along with the various fibres I'm using at the time - separated into basic colours in polybags; bags containing various yarns - if I'm doing a textile "painting"; my home-made pillow - I used to use foam but I find that a pillow made from scoured merino wet felted into a cube and becoming more and more firm as I use it much better. (That way I don't get bits of foam sticking to what I'm making); my close-up spectacles and my reference material. Fibres and yarns that I'm not using for the current project sit around in polybags on a shelf in my bedroom/workshop; along with the needles I'm not taking round with me in the containers in which they came from Wingham - marked with the appropriate colour of nail varnish, and my selection of pipe cleaners and wire for armatures and the various types of eyes, beaks, horns and feet that I have made or bought. Sorry to go on so - this was going to be a quick reply! Ann
