https://www.instagram.com/p/CLCI9whHDYh This is a piece of work for our felt group this term. The topic was 'layered', to include felt, fabric, stitching, embellishments, and to research some textile artists. I took inspiration from a frozen spider web that I photographed on my washing line, from the really cold weeks after Christmas and early January. I do like spiders, other grown up people jumping and shouting when they see one is more alarming to me than the spider! It is wet felt with various colours of yarn felted in, some stitched fabric and, chain stitching to illustrate the web. The various pieces of fabric are free stitched on, I traced a spider onto some pattern paper and stitched it through the paper. I went over each line a few times. We were encouraged to use a 'phrase, or words, or add paper' to our work. I had an alphabet stamp set, so I used that to add a very apt quote (I think so anyway). I am pleased how it turned out. I need to tidy up the edges, I do find it difficult to keep the edges neat, no matter how hard I try, no doubt it does take practice.

It turned out great. I like the quote too, very apt for the time. Adding things to felt is s much fun. Getting an even thickness at the edge can be difficult and with all the other things pulling in different ways it's bound to end up with wonky edges. I don't mind spiderwebs as long as I don't walk into them with my face. Then all bets are off. LOL

Fascinating mixed-media piece Marie! You've certainly nailed the brief.
I like how it grew from your frozen web inspiration and all the colours/textures combine well - the text gives us something to think about!

Great, I love the mixed media that you have used. And the quote is perfect.

Thank you all for your kind comments. I'm amazed that I figured out the Instagram malarky!! But quite easy too.
