Hi, I’m Nyht. I’m a textile artist with a degree in weaving, and I’ve been knitting for around 20 years. I’m an American who lives on the east coast of England, and with the lockdowns, I’ve had lots of time to work on my fiber projects.
I have dabbled in felt, but have recently become obsessed with it. I’ve done some needle felting and am now learning wet felting. My long term goal is to make sculptural hats, but apparently I’ve got to learn the basics first. (So annoying. I want to be brilliant instantly.) I lurked for a few hours and then decided to join, because there seems to be such a wealth of knowledge here.
Nice to meet you!

Hello Nyht - welcome to the forum!
Teri runs online classes here on the forum for sculptural hats - perhaps Ruth (Moderator) can advise when the next class will be?
I hope you enjoy your felting journey - it is exciting!

Thanks for the information. I just started working on a pod this afternoon. It’s... not fantastic, but let’s face it, most fiber projects have a learning curve. And I’m a stubborn wee thing, who refuses to admit defeat. I’ll get going on the next try tomorrow when my brain (and arms) are a bit less tired.

Welcome Nyht.
I laughed at your comment about being brilliant instantly - yes, how great would that be?! But then again, it would get old pretty quickly. Alas there’s no short cut but it turns out that the working through, successes, disasters and ‘what if?’ projects are actually the best bits.
I hope you get where you want to be and enjoy the journey.

Teri is a wonderful teacher for sculptural hats and all her pupils turn out lovely hats. By the way, I've been felting for years and I can still produce a below par item now and then. It happens. Usually when I try to rush the felt - it knows.
