I've bought an industrially made cone from rabbit hair and tried to dye it with a plant (can't remember which but I'd used it before and it was a well tested dyer). The felt just wouldn't dye, contrary to some industrially made sheep wool felt that readily dyed and printed with plants. Has anybody out there any experience/expertize in dyeing rabbit hair with plants?

Hi Ladka,
Sorry but I have not had any experience dyeing rabbit hair. Good luck with your experiments.

I would have thought, being a protein fibre it wold dye with the same methods as wool. Is it posable it has been treated with something? I will ask at my guild to see if any of the rabit people have a sugestion.

Yes, I'm afraid it has been treated with some chemical that did not / could not be washed out. I'd appreciate any info on natural dyeing rabbit hair though.

Everyone agreed it should dye just like wool. The only thing is that it takes a long time to get properly wet. Most soak for 24 hours before dying. we would love to hear how it goes and pictures of the results.
