Hey there! My name is Anna and I am an Aussie! I am a self taught artist and I work in Alot of different mediums, but especially love sculpting animals. I have been drawing since I was 5 and dogs are my favourite animal (I'm also a qualified vet nurse). Due to health issues I've had a lot of time to do creative stuff over the last year or so, as I learn to live with my chronic health condition. I've recently started study so I won't be able to make as much but I still hope to do some regularly. I do a lot of mixed media sculptures, ie not just all one thing (not all clay etc). This is my first needle felted sculpture, a Labrador Retriever, with a clay (and then furred) head. I also used wire, pastels, glue etc. Anyway I'm looking forward to making and sharing many more critters this year - providing study doesn't get me too busy! Would love to meet you all! ~ Anna

Welcome Anna, I am glad you joined us. Your dog is awesome. Did you glue the wool to the clay head? Interesting

Welcome Anna! The Lab is adorable. I look forward to seeing more of your creations! I hope your condition doesn’t keep you from your pooch passion. Stay well!

Thank you all for the lovely greeting! Re the dog's head, I basically use either air dry or polymer clay (and I used to use just a glue gun but to shape it properly you have to burn your fingers lol) and sculpt the head, let it dry, then coat with acrylics to the colour the fur will be. Then using a slicker brush I brush out my fur and chop it like 1-2mm long with scissors. Then I glue all the fur onto the clay with pva and tweezers. After that I either blend the fur colours gluing, or come back and shade with a paintbrush that has dry pastels on it. And that's it.

Thank you for the explanation - the dog is fab and I can't see where the needle felting ends and the different technique for the dog's head begins. Excellent work.
