Hello, I'm very new to this so please excuse me if it use the wrong terms/wording. My father has a small flock of cotswold sheep, a longwool breed in the UK. I'm true to find a good place to sell the wool. It's raw unwashed fleece that has a long staple. He has won many prizes here in the UK for his fleeces and I was thinking that someone somewhere might like to make something beautiful with it. I have looked on the usual places, ebay, etsy and they seem to be selling it per Kg, is that how you buy it? Or are smaller amounts better for you? Any advise on this would be much appreciated.
Kind regards.
Becky

I am in the US, but tend to buy my wool by the pound as it is cheaper that way. Many times, people here sell an entire fleece for a certain price. I'm sure some people would buy in smaller quantities too.
How much are you asking for it? People here on the forum might be interested if you showed us some photos and gave a price. Then they could pm you here about buying what they want.

Ok photos will take few days so I will get on with that and post them on here. As for price I'm unsure, here in uk there are sites selling it for £17-30 per Kg but I've no idea if thats right or not.

I can't tell you the appropriate price. Perhaps someone from the UK will chime in with some suggestions.

Where I see raw unwashed fleeces for sale are groups on Facebook. There are probably some UK specific sale groups. The quality of the fleece and the amount of vegetable mater(VM)in it, determine the price. If you have a nice story to go with it you seem to get more. like this is form Dolly the sheep, she is a good mom and has won first prise at such and such a show. This also helps when people want to by another fleece from the same animal next year. If he is winning prizes then I would think it is an excellent fleece with little VM and should get a high price. People always want pictures. You can ask where to sell in some of the spinning and felting groups.

Thanks for you reply, I'm currently learning as much as I can. Went today and helped dad sort some to be sent out to the US. Was really interesting to see what they are like. Was quite easy to spot a naff one, crimp not uniform throughout, or shorter staple. Think I just now need to set myself up and have a go at skirting one and see how long that takes. Lots to learn!! Kind regards to you all.

Short staple can be fine just let people know. people do not like second cuts, so shake them out. if you google skirting table you can make your own.
