This is a commission I’ve been working on for a while, trying to fit it in between other things. Based on a bird I watched a short walk from my house where there’s a sort of gravel spit that juts into the sea / estuary. Finished it yesterday when I needle felted the bird onto the backgroundand then the detail onto the bird. I haven’t heard from the person who commissioned it yet but on this occasion I’ve said if she doesn’t like it I will return her deposit and offer it with my other pictures as it’s something I’d been planning anyway.

He's so sweet - your client will love him! Thank you, Lyn. I’m not sure she will to be honest as I think she had a pretty clear idea about what she wanted which is a picture I made for my Mum. This one has turned about a bit more tubby and a bit less elegant. I don’t really mind though. I don’t think I’d be willing to have another go. Too many other things I want to make!

I realised as I posted this that the one I made for my mum is the image I use on my profile <———

Very nice, I had to laugh when you called your bird "tubby". It reminds me of when I machine stitched a heron but forgot to take into account the shrinkage you get with dense stitching. My heron turned into a tubby, dumpy looking duck. Not at all as planned. Your bird doesn't look all that tubby to me.

Commissions are always nerve-wracking. I hope she likes it after all your trouble but if not I am sure someone will love to buy it. Not tubby, well fed. LOL

Both are lovely Lindsay. I’m sure she’ll love it. If not, someone else will snap it up.

Lindsay, I think this one is even more elegant than the one in your profile, particularly around the neck, she would be crazy not to love it!! :-)

Thank you, Pamster. The client did get in touch yesterday and she does want to buy it so a happy end to that story. I’m hoping to drop it off today.

I agree with Pamster about the neck. Great job. The piece is absolutely beautiful.

Thanks Eileen. Little egrets do have extremely long necks, that sometimes look very angular, honest, but maybe not very elegant! I do like doing birds but they can be pretty fiddly.
