Hi everyone! First post. In an effort to lessen my single use plastic, I have ended up with tons of glass jars and bottles. I was crocheting cozies for them and they were sweet but then I had the thought of wet felting on them and wondered if that could be done. Couldn’t find much info but then found a video on YouTube where a gal used an orange as a vessel so I figured glass wouldn’t be that different. Anyway, long story short, here is what I’ve been up to. I hope this works!

Those are great Eileen! Are you felting right over the jar or are you using a flat resist and then fitting the felt on to the jar? Love your color mixes

I love your vibrant jar cosies Eileen they are fab. What do you do with them? I'm sure they must put a smile on any recipient's face.
I think I know which 'gal' you spoke of...if I’m right she felts inside a plastic bag with the orange. After experimenting and creating several vessels using her method, I tried this with our village craft group (6 of us felting at the same time around a kitchen table would not have been possible with 'normal' wet felting methods!). It was a great success. The fun came trying to get the oranges out!

Lovely jar covers Eileen, they look great. I’m intrigued by felting straight onto the jar as I’m not sure how it handles the shrinkage. Is the finished felt quite soft or are you able to full it completely? I often felt onto things (vases, canisters etc) but I felt flat around a resist then shape it to the object in the later stages (I have an example on the daily dose for February thread).

Yes, Antje, that is the tutorial. I forget her name, but she's terrific. I think standing around with a group felting would be so much fun. And it did look challenging getting the orange out. I have a couple listed in my Etsy shop but I'm going on vacation tomorrow and didn't want to list them and then deactivate them. So I'll list them when I get back and see how it goes. I really can't make more unless I see that they will sell!
Hi Lindsay. I did make a tutorial and will post soon. One of them didn't turn out so well so I removed it from the glass and it was felted well enough on the inside. I have occasionally placed too much wool at the top and I could see on the inside by the neck that it wasn't quite felted. So the trick is to get good enough coverage without it being too thick. I thought about using a resist but it seemed so complicated especially since I'm working on so many different shapes. I will try to find your post now. Thanks.
