I got some free "silk noil" with my drum carder and it looked grey, dull and more like cotton than silk. It was weird. Haven't tried it yet though.

I'm reviving this thread to ask some questions.
I really like silk noil, but the noil I have has, for a lack of a better word, guard hairs in it. They don't take dye, or felt. I was wondering if anyone knew what they were.
My comment is this: has anyone ever felted with silk noil--and I mean just silk noil, no wool? The woman I bought my noil from told me it would felt by itself. I didn't believe her, but I made a Rosiepink pod totally out of silk (noil with some tops as embellishment) and it worked! I have also made a felt bracelet entirely out of silk.

I didn't know you could fashion just silk noil into a pod! That's fascinating. I'd love to see it, and the bracelet.

I'll see if I can find a photo of the pod. I gave it to my mother. But the bracelet is around here somewhere. I'll have to photograph it in the morning.
ETA: I just found out that my daughter sold the bracelet today! I'll have to make another one.

The silk noil pod is wonderful! I bet it looks good to the eye - photos never do fibres justice. And congratulations on selling the bracelet.

Beautiful pod Robin. I’ve never tried silk noir alhtough I have some but it’s gray brown. I’ll have to try to dye some.

Thanks!
Do dye some Marilyn. It's fun to use.

That to me looks like a mix of wool and silk. Pure silk noil in my opinion doesn't felt. It's a lovely pod though. Where did you get the silk noil from?

do you have a picture of the silk noil. Some I have seen still seems to have some serisin in it so it would stick together.

The only silk noil I have experience with is a white 100g bag I bought when I started felting and it is full of VM!

I bought the silk noil from Anna Gratton: www.facebook.com/pg/Anna-Gratton-Ltd-140866726031515/photos/?tab=album&album_id=515475565237294 I've got red, blue and green. That purple is new since I last looked and looks very tempting! She grows, dyes and sells the most wonderful corriedale wool. She was the one who told me silk noil would felt--and it really did. There is no wool in that pod. I couldn't believe it!
