Add hand stitching instead of machine stitching. Very different feel for sure

Working on another nuno felt landscape. Figuring out the foreground details and how they are going to be applied. What is everyone up to today?

Putting my own poster together to advertise my wet felting course to display at my next craft fair, and maybe smaller ones to put into purchasers bags.
Finishing felted, lined notebook covers with pretty buttons and ties.
Making felt for cards to add cotton grass to.

I have been stitching . I did a rooster, a hen and some chicks on a little bag. Next I have to dissolve the stabiliser. I also ordered 3 more embroidery books from the library.

Sounds like you're really getting into the embroidery Ann. How did you like using the stabilizer for patterns?

I am enjoying it Ruth. I like the stabiliser. It is easy to stitch and to trace patterns on. I may look for a thinner one than I have.

I finally got round to doing something with that sari silk I was asking for thoughts about a while back. I’ll post a photo on the original discussion thread for the sake of completeness. I’ve wanted to use a sander for nuno feltingfor some time after talking about it with a wise old felter at a craft fair. It didn’t go too well! The cheap sander I bought for this purpose started to break apart, pinging bits of broken plastic about the place, a little edge sander had no visible effect & a big beefy sander chewed up the plastic. Looks like I’m sticking with hands and arms.

I’d not been to the studio for about a week (I made the scarf at home yesterday because my dining table is wider than my studio table so better for things like scarves) so was pleased to get back there for a few hours this afternoon. I have a group sale in a small place next week so wanted to make a few smaller things as I won’t have space for big pictures. Here are both sides of a piece of felt that I’m going to cut into coasters. Think I will get 9 out of it. www.ipernity.com/doc/2373440/46777842www.ipernity.com/doc/2373440/46777844

The sander sounds like a disaster. I have a sander that works but I never use it. The vibration is really hard on my hands and wrists and it is so loud. I like to be able to feel what's happening with the felt anyways.
The coaster felt is nice and colorful!

I thought it might make things a bit quicker as there was a lot of fabric in the scarf. The very experienced felter who made beautiful nuno felt clothes highly recommended it as being a very effective way of making sure the fibres go through. The noise was another reason why I did it at home rather than in the studio (which has light screening rather than proper walls between studios). It is rather brutal. I may have another go at some point but I’d have to buy another machine so maybe I wont bother.

I have been asked if I could felt a picture of someone's property abroad! I haven't felted buildings in detail, I think I need to study the pictures before I commit.

Congrats, Tracey! I agree with Ruth about the sander. Between the noise and the vibrations I don't like it. It does not seem to be any faster than rolling, either. Besides, I use the rolling to work on my triceps; coupled with some knee bends I can get a workout!

I agree I didn't like the sander. I didn't find it went any faster. It made it seem like work too. The noise was just to much. I like to listen to a book or the radio while felting.
Tracy thats great that someone asked. Building are different. I am still deciding on how to do buildings. I think for small ones it might be best to add them after. But it depends onthe over all size of the picture how much detail you can get. the is a lady( whos name escapes me a the moment) that does great sheep pictures. I wondered how she got so much detail. Then I saw a picture of them in a gallery. They are huge pictures. No wonder they look so detailed. I had thought they were small.
