A great looking piece. It is like a flour pod. How do you wet finish it without getting the whole thing soggy? Is it your only piece in the show or do you have others? Thanks! The whole thing does get soggy when it's this big. It's a real chore, honestly, and then drying it without getting flat spots is a different issue altogether. I've done it for pieces larger than this and I concocted a towel splint/sling to throw it in my front loading washer. A couple of Spin Only cycles got out most of the water but it was a harrowing wait & see. The show is a two-person exhibit with a friend of mine who is a painter. I'll have about a dozen or so fiber pieces. Felted sculptures and my newest weavings. Pretty exciting but without the pressure of a commercial event, since it's in a non-traditional space.

I hope you post a link or pictures when the show is up. We would all love to see it.
My daily dose is starting some slippers and making a new little bag for my biz cards.

After two part days of making sheep tea cosies, yesterday I turned to another love of mine, baking. I bake for my husband's office, that way I can still enjoy the baking and give all the calories away!
A brand new sponge recipe was a flop when it only rose to 1cm, so I started again. I continued all afternoon and was quite tattered by the end, and my kitchen and my apron was a bit of an explosive mess!
I thought of the parallels in felting, satisfying or frustrating or both at the same time, takes time, sometimes the unknown and you are hoping for a decent outcome. However, only one is edible!

Sounds like my baking. The best stuff I produce is when we're not expecting visitors!

Tracey, so far my feelings about my studio challenge piece are about the same. It's sitting there looking sad waiting for some huge inspiration of a way to improve it.

Tracey - you're not alone in your 'not happy - starting again' situation! Or are we getting too fussy?

I've heard that no great artist is ever totally happy with his/her work ... so ... maybe we're all becoming great ... yes, that's it!

The piece I made not only looked...erm.....rubbish! but photographed badly. Up to now I have been taking photos on my phone, maybe it's time to start using a camera. I always think the colours are never the same when using the phone. I hope attempt number two works because I think it will be a surprise at what I am using

The piece I made not only looked...erm.....rubbish! but photographed badly. Up to now I have been taking photos on my phone, maybe it's time to start using a camera. I always think the colours are never the same when using the phone. I hope attempt number two works because I think it will be a surprise at what I am using I've always been happier with photos taken on my camera rather than those taken using the phone, but yesterday I was trying (all morning off and on at different times as the light changed) to capture a layout of golds, yellows, salmons etc and although it looked wonderful to the naked eye, the camera shots all looked muddy and the individual colours didn't show. In desperation I took a quick snap with my phone and I couldn't believe that it had done a better job than my camera had! The photo taken with my phone is still not as good as I'd like, but it's far better than the shots I spent most of the morning taking. So in the future I'll always try both.
