Welcome! We do have members from Australia but I don't think any have been really active lately. I know that they have several big felt gatherings though so you should be able to find felt makers in your area. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Hello there and welcome to the forum. Am I right in assuming that you haven't yet made any felt? If so, then I would recommend starting with making a small flat piece of felt. Here are a couple of links for you to try: Pictorial Guide to Flat Felt by ZedPictorial Guide to Flat Felt by rosiepinkFelting is an exciting journey of experimentation and learning - I hope you share your discoveries with us.

Merino wool yarn is suitable for felting - providing it hasn't been treated to not shrink. I think the treated wool is called 'Superwash'.

There is an Australian Felt magazine by arrtwearpublications.com. I subscribe and while many of the features are advanced there are plenty of Australian vendors that advertise. We also have an online beginner wet felting class here. You can join anytime and work at your own pace. feltingandfiberstudio.com/classes/wet-felting-for-beginners-online-course/We look forward to hear and see how you are enjoying your Felting. Have fun!

I agree with Lyn, start with a piece of flat felt and work from there. I would try and get some wool roving or tops to begin. If you look at Lyn's and Zed's tutorials, that is what they will be using. Don't worry about the colors to start, just try to see how the wool reacts with water, soap and agitation.

I agree about starting with a small flat piece. Fekting is one of those things that you can read loads about, but only really understand after trying your first piece, then it's like taking blinkers off, and all those things you read make sense. Good Luck with it
