I just wanted to share something with you, this weekend I am part of a spinning, weaving and anything fibre group and we have a weekend away - during the weekend we have a few community like activities;
one of these is to complete some felt work started by a lady, I never met but sadly has died. The group have a box of half felted pieces from her so collectively we are going to complete them.
Then on top of that piece of heartfelt work, we have a group of women coming along who sing songs in Gaelic - Waulking the Cloth (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waulking_song)
We are going to be having a go at contact dyeing and making felted gnomes onto driftwood - I am so excited :-)

Thanks for writing that blog post. I enjoyed it. The piece your group finished for the artist who had died--wow! I really liked that.
You may be interested to know--last year my mother (who lives in the US) was invited to a birthday party for a friend--it was a waulking the cloth party. The birthday girl had woven 2 large alpaca blanks and they waulked them. My mother said it was really interesting.

That is interesting, did they sing as they waulked?

That is interesting, did they sing as they waulked? I think they did. I'll have to ask my mother.

I spoke to my mother. She said they drank wine, laughed a lot and listened to the waulking songs but since no one knew the words, they didn't sing. She said the blankets turned out beautifully.
