Pamster the only thing I can think of is that after you cut them out give them all a little more felting to "set" the edges before adding them to the background.
I still have some stitching to do on mine but it should be ready to mail by Monday. My partner by chance is also in Canada so it should only take a few days to get there. And yes I am touching some wood as I say that.

I forgot to say how great the panda is. I think pandas are fuzzy so that's great.

Pamster, I like your "fuzzy" card. It is impressionistic and still gives the feeling of the holidays. It is abstracted stars.

Anne - your card is fabulous! He has a mischevious look on his face that I find adorable.

Stargazer, I posted your card today, it will be interesting to see how long it takes to get to you. I am not super happy with it, but it was the best that I could get done with my novice abilities and wanting to post it by today. I would have liked to send this one: imgur.com/a/xAUBIbut the edges of the prefelt are so fuzzy you almost can't tell that they are meant to be stars and unlike Penguin's cute bear, fuzziness does not enhance the stars Suggestions from anyone about how to stop the fuzziness would be most appreciated. I love the card as it is! I think it's magical and having defined edges would have spoiled it. However, if in future you want sharper edges to your pre-felt, roll/rub it for much longer before you cut it out.

Thanks Marilyn, Ruth, Ann and Lyn I will try prefelting a little more next time I am aiming for sharp edges and let you know how it goes

Pamster - I think your card beautiful. I can most certainly see that they are stars. Definitely has that Christmas-vibe to it.
It seems like each technique of felting has it's own little universe of ways to achieve what you want. Thank goodness we have all these lovely people on the forum to help us, hehe.
I'm really looking forward to receive your card. I already know where to hang it. Your card is laying next to me, all finished and ready to be sent first thing in the morning the 2nd - I haven't been able to send it earlier. Sorry about that.

However, if in future you want sharper edges to your pre-felt, roll/rub it for much longer before you cut it out. Lyn, funny you should say that. I have recently made a bunch of prefelts in various colours for stock and even though I thought I had made them the same as previous prefelt, they did not feel as soft as ones before, so I wondered if I had gone 'too far', and it wouldn't felt in. Then I thought that the wool underneath would grab it, and also as you say, the edges would be more defined. I have not tried them yet.
Unless a prefelt is really felted, does everyone think it will still adhere? Hope I have explained that ok !
Also this made me think back to hippopip's Japanese Edo art period piece in the 3rd quarter studio challenge, how fantastically sharp the prefelt of her crane was!

Pamster--you could try what Pandagirl has suggested plus rough up the back of your prefelt a bit with a stiff brush. Good luck!

Tracey - I've made pre-felt up to passing the 'pinch-test' and it keeps its shape well. The edges won't stay ruler-straight but near enough.
The pre-felt shouldn't be too thick and to get a precise shape use the *freezer paper method for cutting out the dry pre-felt. (*Use a pencil to draw your shape on the paper side of the freezer paper, use a medium iron for 2-3 seconds to adhere it to the felt, leave to cool then cut it out. The freezer paper will lift off easily.)
If there is to be a lot of pre-felt applied to a picture, pre-felt the base to the same degree before applying the shapes to avoid severe wrinkles caused by one layer shrinking more than the other. It takes a lot of gentle persuasion to get the layers to melt together but it is possible.

A very interesting tip regarding pre-felting the base Lyn thanks, and would never have guessed about the shrinkage rate difference. Will try the freezer paper too.

He is wonderful Anne! You have really captured the face. I really don't fancy trying to felt an animal as I'm sure they would come out looking not of this world, so well done you, lovely. Thanks everyone. Tracey, the face was 'rescued' with a smidgeon of judicious (and very simple) embroidery! Due to the Corriedale being so hairy I think, when I was fulling it quite a bit just pulled/slipped out, so I rescued an ear and the eyes with a few back stitches! I was was pleased to get a nice flat background as my two previous picture attempts had permanent wrinkles.

Pamster, I really like your stars but I can relate to your fuzziness frustrations! Lots of good advice above - and of course felt is inherent somewhat fuzzy but if you want reduced fuzz superfine merino is good - can end up looking a bit too flat though; just depends what effect you're after.

I have taken another look at Mr Fuzzy and I also think his face is adorable, spot on.

I finished my piece but now I can't find my blank cars. I may just have to put a postcard back on it and pop it inside a card. I will look one more time. After all I had to look in my basket 3 times before finding the scissors that were in there.
