I'm glad that my first attempt at felting on lace succeeded. I was following the instructions from a master class video by an Ukranian artist, Svetlana Tymofeeva which I bought some time ago. Fortunately the demonstration was so clear that in spite the fact I don't speak Russian I could follow. So here is my dress which still needs some steam ironing and finnishing the hems. What intirigued me most was that it was claimed there is no shrinkeage (or negligeable), and it is true! There is so little wool in this dress, somewhere about 30 - 50 gr! Virtually the wool acts as a glue which holds together the lace and viscose fibers (you can see the viscose shining from under the lace) www.ipernity.com/doc/724735/45340762 www.ipernity.com/doc/724735/45340766 www.ipernity.com/doc/724735/45340766

So, so good. & so interesting, you must have laid each fibre of wool separately! I am shocked it holds together as felt with so little wool. & it looks beautiful. Is the lace a sort of knitted, stretchy fabric? If so, does it still stretch, it looks like it does.

Thank you Jill and Lyn. The lace is synthetic and stretchy. The whole dress kept stretchiness too.

That is a beautiful stylish dress Nada, lovely colour too. The amount of wool you used is amazing.

That's amazing and really beautiful - not at all what I associate with the idea of a felt dress!

What an interesting process. You did a wonderful job. How long did it take you all together to make the dress? It seems like it would be painstaking work getting such thin, even coverage with the wool.

Thank you ladies for your comments. Indeed it took me about a week from start to finish: making six layers of wool and viscose is painstaking so I was making frequent breaks in between. And there was a lot of hand stitching too. As Marian says it doesn't look that the dress is felted, but still looks interesting I think.
