I picked up 'Elsie', a BL shearling today from Ellie at The Doulton Flock. Its beautiful 6.5" crimped locks are presently soaking in various places in the house and garden. It will be washed tomorrow. The weather is perfect for drying outside. I also decided to try the Fermented Suint Method for part of this fleece to see how it performs, so have been collecting rainwater at every opportunity. Cross your fingers and hold your noses everyone!!! Ellie also asked if I would spin for a while on her stall at Woolfest. I'm not very confident about spinning in public, but I'll give it a go! I might get tips from good spinners and non spinners may not recognise my faults!

Interesting method. I don't know what is the lanolin content in the fleece of our local sheep. I will certainly inform our local breeders.

Sounds like a lovely fleece. I need to find a local breeder with BFL or one of the other long wools. I want to make a fake sheepskin.

Sounds like a lovely fleece. I need to find a local breeder with BFL or one of the other long wools. I want to make a fake sheepskin. This is a Border Leicester, longer locks than BFL and generally said to be not so fine, though this one is very fine indeed - sold as Grade I. Here she is all washed this morning and left to dry in the sun. Most of it is now bone dry, so I'm going to start flicking and carding. This is so soft I feel a jumper coming on. flic.kr/p/UFjmmi
