I'm glad you found the problem. Where are you located? There are many places to order wool online.

Hi If you're in the UK or Europe then I'd recommend World of Wool online shop to you. They have a really big selection of fibres at good prices. Their shipping is quick & inexpensive & their customer service is great. I suggest you buy merino roving to get started - doesn't need to be superfine ( that's the softest stuff, not to be confused again with superwash lol). Others will have suggestions if you're elsewhere in the world.....
I wouldn't bother with putting fabric in the middle to get started, just make a simple piece of flat felt, so you can get the feel of it. Yes, a layer of cotton can keep felt more stable/ strong, but not usually necessary - some people do it when they are making a thick bag/ purse, for instance.

If you're in the states you have a lot of options. Dharmatrading.com carries silks and wool most undyed although lately they've started carrying colors. Watch the momme in silks, the lower the better. Paradisefibers.com, outbackfibers.com (TX), New England Felting www.feltingsupply.com, rhlindsey.com sells in bulk, DreamspinFibres.com (Canada) Checkout their websites and prices. I'm sure you'll find whatever you need. Most have good customer service and information on their sites as well. Have fun!

Hi feltmysoul, as soon as I saw your description it sounded just like some superwash I got in a bag of 'waste' recently, so I know how you feel! I'm going to use mine as surface decoration, like I would use silk or bamboo. Where are you? World of Wool is in the UK, it delivers worldwide and is VERY cheap for lots of felting supplies. Wollknoll is in Germany and if you are closer, that is also very cheap for felting supplies. Both sites have lots of variety of wool and fibres. www.worldofwool.co.uk/www.wollknoll.eu/shop/ in the top right corner, you can click the flag if you prefer English

I've used 8mm and it takes longer to felt. I would recommend a lower mm than 10 mm to start with if you're new to Nuno. Most Predyed silks are 8 mm and higher. You can buy 5mm in white and dye it which is what I used to do. dharmatrading.com sells colored 8mm chiffon and white silks in lower mm. They are also cheaper. Good luck! www.dharmatrading.com/fabric/colored-fabrics.html?lnav=fabric.htmlsilk gauze as well as habotai also felts very nicely.
