Great work Leigh - both with the detailed tutorial and the gorgeous, fluffy fleece rug! I also felt fleece rugs, but often use a frame (a skirting table very similar to yours) to keep the fleece in place, and do a bit of rolling too. I also like to use parts of different fleeces to create contrasts. I have written a short description of how I make them (in Swedish, but with an English summary) here: zararooke.com/2015/08/21/hur-man-tovar-en-fall-av-raull/

Thank you for posting such a comprehensive tutorial. Its another thing I have on my to do list. Now I've read how much is involved I'm not so sure. I have a small & slightly tatty Hebridean fleece awaiting something being done with it. Definitely an outdoor job, so I can procrastinate a little longer till summer. I procrastinated for over a year but I finally did it, I felted a Hebridean fleece sheared from a sheep from a local flock into a fleece rug.
Unfortunately I'm having difficulty uploading to photobucket so I will post a link when I am less technologically challenged.

I look forward to seeing it, too, Lindsay. I have a box of pieces of fleece I’ll make into a rug someday.
