My batts are quite thick and so I'm guessing that is why I have not noticed any thin areas, but as I learn to do more with the wool that doesn't require thickness (like the slippers) I am sure I will see more issues and so I will start turning them 90 degrees. THank you for answering my questions:)

Can you guys recommend which size tooth I should get for a drum carder. We are hand carding our little hands off and can't believe how long it takes to get enough carded to make boots and slippers *G*. A friend suggeted medium would work for most wools I am working with, but what do you guys think? I am probably going to be doing more coarse wools in the 25-33 micron range mainly, but I also do have alpaca and mixed other wool . . I guess best all around tooth size?
