I've just made a seascape pic that I'm really pleased with on the whole but it's puckering vertically, presumably because I only did one horizontal and vertical under-layer and then the pic on top is entirely horizontal stripes. Should have done two vertical layers but it's too late now!
Does anyone have any advice on how I might be able to smooth it. Vertical texture on a horizontal picture isn't working for me!
Would upload but Flickr playing up for me!
Thanks,
Anne

Anne - what are your plans for mounting it? I would either re-wet it or steam it and then stretch out the puckering. If you stretched it over a canvas it would work well to keep the puckers out too.
You can also trying ironing it and then stretching as you iron. That seems to work well for getting the felt to stay flat.
Let us know how it works out.

Thanks Ruth, I will try the iron and stretch first. It did occur to me that I could stretch it on a canvas but I rather like the raggedy edges so I'd rather not do that. I've got some silk painting stretcher bars somewhere so if ironing and stretching doesn't do it I'll re-wet and pin it on those. Thanks for all the suggestions.

I steam iron with lots of steam. If you just iron it you can often get the puckering out with out stretching it. If you have to stretch it . watch your fingers the iron makes your felt really hot. Remember to pull it all over and not just the edges or you will end up with rippley edges.

Lovely seascape Anne. I'd do as already suggested - steam iron. Blocking and steaming might help too. Hope you manage to get it flattened out.

Thanks everyone - steaming and stretching did the trick, and I'm happy with it now. Just trying to decide whether to add more white to the sun and/or a seagull silhouette in needle felting.

I really like it, Anne. I don't think it needs more white, but I'm not sure about the seagull.

I'll try to remember to cut one out, place it on and post it before felting, and you can see what you think. :-)

It's a great picture, lovely colours, lots of movement and the gull really brings the whole scene to life.
