Your hat is lovely Viltmaaraan. I like the "nest" on the top although I could not see properly from the picture what the nest loks like. To answer your question about lasts: I use styrofoam lasts which I've bought from Wollknoll. They are quite cheap so I have all sizes. So far I haven't broken any, they are very light and quite durable. But I do put slippers together with the lasts in an old nylon stocking and make a tight knot to make sure tha lasts don't move during tumbling.

I've used merino and Corriedale with silk to make felted soaps. I bought Yardly which is quite fragrant. Unfortunately, I am now allergic to fragrance and can't use them or make any more. I can use olive oil soap which I use myself.
Nice slippers Nada!

Nada - your slippers are quite nice. I wish there was a supplier in the US for those styrofoam lasts.
Viltmaaraan - Love the hat!

Thanks ladies, and Nada I love your slippers, pure nature ! I bought lately also styrofoam lasts but they were 22 euro's, so I better buy them from Wollknoll next time. The hat was the assignement from Teri's class I am in. I experimented a lot with that hat, put locks of my own hair into it (at the brim), it migrated but it was awfull so I have to use a raissor ! I put foam in it, but wasn't a succes because of the folds I had to make. So I got them out and it became Sibori felting. I used light blue angora locks, they were alright. I uses leftover silk, that didn't stick to the merino everywhere unless wrapped over merino . About the angora , ( I bought a fleece) , i was not very pleased with it because it wasn't very soft at all, later I read that you first have to wash it in very very hot water and lay in the sun (if possible ) to dry and give it more shine. And than you can use it to spin or felt or use for dyeing. So now I am afterall happy with the angora !

Thanks, all. This weekend I purchased some very nice hand-made soaps and felted them with some close-out 14.5 micron merino. Yes, pricey but they will be for friends. Also, the fiber had just arrived and I could get to it. My "new" studio is a disaster with pots and leaves and tubs of soaking nuts all over.
Vilt - I love your 'mascot' - so sweet. The hat is great, too.
Nada - I don't understand your pattern. It took both pieces to make the slipper, right? Is the opening between the two pieces?

I love his ears Viltmaaraan. Your hat is very nice, and I like the pink batt too.
Elizabeth I was lucky enough to find my dollar store sells Yardley Lavender, its more than $1 but still a great price. It costs 5 times as much for the same thing in the drug store. the soap lasts longer than it des without the felt. I make a little card I can attach so when they are given for a gift people have the information.
The slippers turned out really well. I am looking forward to hearing about your show.

Finally posting again after a long absence - I have been living in my condo in Florida but will be going back to North Georgia 12/5 when I will be able to move into my new condo - everything has been in storage since July. I have been doing a lot of sewing some clothing and decorating. My latest project was my bedroom here at the beach. I came across some beautiful fabric in the back of an uphostery shop and could not resist purchasing it. Photos are in my blog wp.me/p4joTe-6MWill be working on felting my Christmas Card for Jill - brought a package with me that I had not opened that was suppose to have red roving in it - the color is poppy on one package and crimson on the other both look rather pink. Oh well.

To make a ruffle easily use the zigzag stitch on the sewing machine and fishing line. Place the fishing line on the fabric and then sew the zigzag stitch over it. In the photo I used heavy black thread to show the process since the fishing line is clear and would not photograph. I like using a 20 pound test line because it is easier to handle. This would work with a strip of felt also if you wanted to add a ruffle to a felted pillow or something.

Yes ofcourse, I was forgotten how to do so. I sew a lot, but boys don't need ruffles. The fishing line is a good idea !!

Thanks, Frances. Thanks for that idea. Last time I made ruffles I sewed 3 rows of long stitching. That looks a bit easier!
