Sorry! I haven't been with it lately and completely forgot to do the thread for this. The challenge for this quarter is to find ways of using your large stash of threads, yarn bits, fabric unravellings etc which you've been hoarding for years! Here is the blog post giving more details: feltingandfiberstudio.com/2016/10/08/fourth-quarter-challenge-2/

Marwell Zoo had some Zany Zebras this summer. have a look hereI used odds of yarn to needle felt this fuzzy, zany zebra onto a scrap of white felt, then finished the eyes with white and black thread that was waste from machining. He's a tiny fella - just 5" tall and 4" wide (12.5 x 10cm) zany zebra

Very cute zebra. I friend just told me has a bag of ends cut form her weaving for me. So I will have to go get them and get my thinking cap on as well. I think she collects them to try and get me to visit. we both are always so busy.

Super, Lyn, were your yarns all pure wool do you know? I saw some of the zebras in Southampton last month, it's a small world.

Yes, they were dotted all around Southampton Jill, but they've now been auctioned off and the money raised will help to support Marwell Zoo's conservation work. Some of them were so clever - one was painted like a piano keyboard and the black and white keys made the stripes. Here he is being loaded onto one of the transport lorries.

Thank you Jill - the yarns were all synthetic, but I've found that almost anything needle felts into handmade felt.

Your Zany Zebra is great, Lyn! I love its eyelashes We've had a Cow Parade here, I think there might even be one still around, and Liverpool had the Superlambananas and Ducks.

Seems to be a craze in the UK doesn't it? But I think it's a great idea.
I forgot to say that I accidentally found a way to shade my needle felting. I'd needled in some black yarn and didn't like it but when I pulled it out it left a dark 'shadow' so that's how I did the light grey in the ears of the zebra and the darker grey in the 'whites' of the eyes.

Interesting Lyn, about how the synthetics will needle felt, I would never have thought that. & I love your openness in discovering shading, a great tip thanks

Such a cute zebra, Lyn! I love the eyelashes and the bits of yarn used for the different colored stripes.

Your zany zebra is great. I am heading up a fundraiser that will be using ski lift chairs that artists will "decorate".
