I'm still in white, being a novice. Yellow isn't my colour which is just as well.

Lovely spinning ladies. I love natural colours. Judith what's it like to spin with the linen the merino? Linen on its own is usually spun wet.

Ann, I've felted with this same blend and it was fine, but not the best for spinning, the linen fibres tend to poke out like little spikes. I think it will be OK for this project, but I wouldn't use it again.
I have eventually found 2 local spinners, unbelievably one lives only a couple of streets from me! We met up for coffee today and have arranged to meet up again very soon. One of them has just been to Lithuania, where she bought 2 old flax wheels for 20 euros each and is in the process of cleaning them up with the intention of spinning some flax.

Have you washed the wool yet? I wonder if the flax will lie flat after its bee washed. It is so nice to have friends who spin. Spin in public day is in September . If you spin as a group somewhere you will probably find some other spinning friends. Sounds like its worth a trip to Lithuania is well worth it. We see the old wheels all the time for sale but shipping to Canada is just to much money. You can spin wool on a flax wheel. Flax wheels usually come with a distaff. Some flax wheels have very small orifices so you can only spin very fine.

Ann - yes I've washed the skein and the linen has softened very nicely. Interestingly, the cotton yarn I used as ties felt like it had been starched - must be from the linen. They're talking about spin in public day on the Spinners UK site. Seems there may be one not far from me. Hope it's a dry day. No fibre for me over the weekend, our 4 g'children were staying. We had a lovely time, but now I'm shatterd and on cleaning up duties - have you any idea how far a small pack of glitter can spread?

The nice think about spin in public day you can do it anywhere with anyone. You don't have to go to an organised event. Just grab a friend and go to the park.

I might be able to do that now Ann. I have just discovered some spinning pals.

my daily dose was redoing the background for my city to country picture. I had put the other one in the dryer to tumble and I guess I put it in for longer than I thought. when I pulled it out today it is very felted and shrunk. I think now it is a sewing and embroidery project.

Ann, I hate when that happens. I'm working on a pillow cover and the darn thing insists on shrinking in one direction more than another. I ised two layers of batts so there shouldn't be a directional issue. I finally got it close enough and left it to dry. Some days are just like that.
