Having a few hours on my hands today I decided I needed an apron - one with deep pockets for spinning and fleece, scissors and all the other stuff that I either lose or hangs off my clothes. Here is my easy to wear/make apron, nice deep pockets, and I made a raggy rose that I added since this pic.

Looks nice, deep pockets are a must. what I need is a waterproof apron so I don't walk around with a wet middle form leaning on the wet felting table.

Nice apron Carole. Love the deep pockets.
Ann, I made myself a waterproof apron out of cloth backed vinyl material. At the time, my then sewing machine broke and I didn't get the pockets on. Now I'll have to find the pockets and put them on.

We call that oilcloth and you can get it in different weights, perfect for wet felting I always end up with wet boobs ?

LOL Don't we all Carole. I was lucky to find a nice rubberised apron in my goody bag at the Felting Convergence in NZ last year and wear it when I remember- usually after my tummy gets wet.LOL

There is some great stuff called “laminated cotton,” which is softer and lighter than oilcloth but still is waterproof. That’s what I made my full-length apron with when I first started felting. Oh, and it does have pockets!

There used to be a plastic you could apply to any fabric so you can make rain coats. I haven't seen any in a while but almost all our fabric stores are gone now.

That reminds me of... I made an apron for my grandmother, Baba. It was very simple, in bright colors and with pockets. When she passed, she still had it, even after 5 years of Assisted Living.
I still use it from time to time.
I found a fabric used to cover picnic tables that is fairly waterproof. It was red & white checkerboard in 1" squares (with ants, tee-hee) , so it doubled for measuring. I use it to block my knitting.
That's a nice apron, Carole.

Woman's own would have been like Women's weekly here ( I think it was in the states)lots of how to keep your house clean and your pots and pans sparkling, along with sewing and recipes and tips on keeping hubby happy.

Here is Australia we had Woman's day and Woman's Weekly but could also buy the UK Woman's Own at some Newsagents. Not available any more. TV and Internet have put a lot of magazines out of business.Australians have a name for being the highest per capita buyers of magazines in the world and I can attest to that as I have almost a wall of magazines in racks from many years past right up to date. It is a pretty eclectic collection ranging from several good Art Mags to Fibre,Textiles, Ceramics, Glass ,Jewellery (I was an Art Teacher prior to retirement) and many gardening and Earth Garden mags too.Though I have now vowed to spend on fibre not magazines, as the ads have become more than the content of most magazines I find.

Prevents me looking like a large hairy dog! Note to self - must add pockets.

What a great thread! I love the apron & its' pockets, but my favourite bit has to be Elizabeth using her checked apron to measure - genius

Brilliant Elizabeth what a great idea to use the squares for measuring! I picked up some vinyl tablecloth fabric on special on Wednesday and it will make a second apron to take to the Fibre Forum in September and one for my felting buddy too as a surprise.
