Thank you all. Judith, I have done a sample to test shrinkage but it didn't shrink as much as the last larger piece did - maybe I treated it different ? Thought everything was the same but who knows? ? As this is just fabric and I will cut the pattern from it it is not so critical as a one piece vest like last time......I did enlarge a few of the flowers just in case. I have allowed a full 30% shrinkage but don't think it will go that far as the lace sample didn't shrink down like silk does.

Be patient folks, I am still considering how to wet down and roll that much fabric. A: without drowning the studio and B: having enough energy to roll it well before entrusting it to my dryer. LOL

At today's visit to the Spinners & Weavers craft show my friends and I signed up for a Saori weaving class for October. Six of us will have the tutor in my studio gallery space for a five hour workshop.
I am impressed by the ribbon cutter and can see uses for it in felt weaving and cutting sari silk too...may have to buy me one of those. It cuts at 5cm,8cm and 15cm with the right cutters in any length of fabric and cuts up to eight lengths at a time.
As overnight hostess for the tutor, and day class I may not actually do the lessons, mainly because I really do NOT need another hobby to take over my life/studio and I will be busy putting on lunch/teas etc. LOL But I am impressed by what Prue showed us we can do and can see applications for weaving/felting. No No Sue do not get hooked!

Good luck with your big pieces, Sue.... please do keep checking the dryer, don't want you to get 50% shrinkage not 30 or you'll be making a shorter vest than you've planned!

Will do Jill, I have the new dryer in the studio and just do 5 minute steps with it.Must say it is easier than tracking off to the laundry and washing a short cycle, but with a gammy shoulder I cannot roll hundreds of rolls.

Wow, Sue! I envy you for having your Saori instructor come to your space. Sounds like a wonderful plan, and you are sure to have great fun. I enjoyed my Saori intensive lessons last year and all I can say is, Sue--you are bound to get hooked! I ended up buying a Saori loom!!

LOL Cathy my friend that was with me stayed on at the craft show after I left and rang this morning to say she brought a Saori Loom, so I see what you mean. She too is booked into our workshop so may bring her loom with her.The purchaser gets three hours tuition thrown in, so she will go get that first on June 6th she said. She talked of pulling the weft threads out before felting the weaving into her work but I couldn't see the point.I'll have to see it to see what she is getting at I think.

I've been making felt pieces and cutting them out to make coin purses. I can't remember the last time I did stitching, but I'm a bit rusty

Sue, I'm intrigued with the ribbon cutter. Can you tell me what brand it is?

Made by the same Japanese people that make the Saori I think Elizabeth, so I am guessing it is Saori? Will let you know if different when Marlene gets hers next week.
