But my first try - not sure what to do with it. It was going to be my entry into Zed's contest, but I didn't get it finished in time and the spiral didn't turn out all that great. vase1 by pamd8, on Flickr

I can see the spiral just fine! You should put it in the Flickr group. You did join that, didn't you? Speaking of which, I should put a link from here to the Flickr group. Did you make it flat on a resist or on a ball. I love the beading.

Thanks, Ruth. I made it flat on a resist.
Here's a funny. I've been trying to clean closets of old stuff (like everything) and I ran across an exercise ball that is probably 2-foot across. I couldn't throw it away, it's just like a gertie ball only REALLY BIG! Of course I'll never use it, but.........

Thank you all for your compliments. Karen, beading is something I have been doing for many, many years, probably since the '60s one way or another. I spent the years from 1987 to now making glass beads, so beads are no big thing. The funny thing is that this particular beadwork started as just a little trim to the top - one row. Then I added, and added, and it started bending over and I added and added and in my vast collection that has been around for a long, long time, I found the little bells and ended the whole thing. I love doing beadwork, so making the felted piece allowed me to go back a while in my mind and supplies to do something I had almost forgotten about. I love that felt allows me that latitude, to incorporate other things into the work.

Oh, Karen, I would share anything, but I have no idea what I am doing. I just "do", make it up as I go along.

I'd call it a pod and it's very pretty - I like the addition of the beading and bells.
Don't think about felting the gym ball unless you have a good osteopath nearby!
My daughter made a vessel (sort of urn shaped), on a resist, with a finished height of about 3 feet (so it started at about 4 feet long) and a decent enough girth. By the time she reached the final layer (she decided it ought to be quite thick for strength) the weight of the wet wool was almost too much for her to lift to turn the whole thing over on the table. The swear box was full by the end of the day.

Where is the photo of this large vessel?? Would love to see it. Perhaps you need a crane for such large felting projects...

The vessel went to a local gallery for sale 4-5 years ago but nobody wanted to buy it and I believe my daughter dumped it - by the time she'd received it back from the gallery she hated the sight of it. I'll ask if my daughter has a photo, but at that time we didn't photograph all the things we made (why? how daft can you get?).
