When you paint, yellow + blue = green. So I was curious as to whether an applied colour would alter according to the colour of the felt it was applied to.
For instance, if you had a multi-colour piece of felt and wanted to 'paint' fine grasses on it, wouldn't it look good if the grasses appeared multi-coloured but were done with one colour.
I made a piece of stripey felt for the experiment (very pretty it looked too... before I started....sort of ice-cream colours).
Please enlarge the photo - you can see it clearly then.
Top left corner:
I had an old rubber stamp ink pad left over from my card making days, so I stamped it onto the felt. The colours of the felt underneath did result in a few different hues and it would have been interesting to cut some stamp pads about to make shapes, BUT, even after several days, the ink remained wet and would come away on my fingers.
Rest of the top row:
I used highlighter pens to make leaf shapes. Where I shaded in, the texture of the felt looked interesting, and there was some colour change especially with the yellow - you can see several different hues along the row (in the enlarged photo).
Bottom row:
I used watered down acrylic paints to make leaf shapes.
The outer line is 'drawn' using the edge of a sponge and the paint was dabbed on.
The line running down through the middle was poked into the felt using a cotton bud.
There was no colour change with the paint dabbed on but it made an interesting texture.
There was a slight change with the paint that had been poked in, but not much.
Ah well, not what I'd hoped for, but nothing ventured......
