Recently, I have been thinking about new ways to use felt. I experimented with weaving and felt (see Studio Blog), and I am also looking at Japanese clothing patterns for ideas about wearable felt. Minimalist designs are often created in linen and silk, but felt also seems to be a natural.
What have you been doing with fiber lately? Do you ever experiment with fiber, just for the fun of it?

Unfortunately betwen traveling and being sick, I haven't done a lot lately. But I do love experimenting with fibers, dyeing and techniques. I'll be interested to see how these garments turn out, I plan to try a vest one of these days.

Marilyn hope you get over your aches and pains soon - went to the thrift store looking for a silk scarf or blouse no luck but did come home with a king size sheet I can make patterns for fitting vests out of

Thanks Frances! Aches and pains I can handle but I'm in the third week of a horrible cold that has knocked me down.
The king size sheet is a great idea to use for patterns. Hmm, I have a couple laying around. I'll remember that. Thanks!

Hope you feel better soon, Marilyn I think my 'problem' is I do more 'experimenting' than actually making. I always have the thought that when I've learnt enough I'll put it to good use, but there's so much to try and so much to learn. I don't know what something is for or what I'll do with it, sometimes the object is to just find out how or why things work or work together.

Nothing wrong with experimenting Zed. That's how I learn the most.

Zed, I am with you on the experimentation. It’s so much more exciting to me to try something new then to carry on with the old. Learning is fun! Well, we will just have to find another way to fund our fiber obsessions. ;-))

Well, by passing on what we know, Cathy People are always looking for the instant answer and don't mind paying for it, or like me, just don't know where to start sometimes so just need an expert introduction

I attended an estate sale of a 35 year veteran fiber artist this week. I picked up some silk for Nuno felting and felting in general. I plan on playing with more of these silks. Some will be used in weaving too. Here is a picture of my find.

Next week I am going to attend a workshop called Fiber inlay technique, given by Vilte Kazlauskaite from Lithuania. It seldom happens that a felting master visits Slovenia so I don't want to miss this opportnunity. I have no idea what inlay technique is about so I am even more intrigued. Vilte produces wonderful garments. Take a lok here vilte.tumblr.com/

I have a new scarf design mostly laid out and I hope I can get it done today. I made a simple wool and silk picture so I can try some machine stitching on it. I love your experiments Zed. Saves me a lot of time. I like to make things. Hope your cold goes soon Marilyn. Nada, I hope you will share your class experience with us. Maybe d a blog post about it?

oh Nada, lucky you - she has to be one of the very best nuno garment masters. I do hope the workshop is as wonderful as it could be & you discover what 'fibre inlay' is! Please do report back.
