There shouldn't be any moving parts on a niddy noddy while you are using it. When its finished you rotate the top or bottom bar so it is in line with the other end and then it's easy to get it off.

OK, I will draw up my courage to go to one of those big box hardware stores and get the proper pieces. Must remember not to call them “thingys.”

I call them thingies all the time. I just describe it and then when I tell them what it's for they usually look very confused.

Sadly, I don’t believe I will be attempting to make Judith’s niddy noddy anytime soon. The pics below from my local hardware store will explain all… IMG_2015 by catwycliff, on Flickr

That's too funny. To much choice. You just need to grab someone that works there and tell them you want one inch PVC or white plastic pipe cut to the lengths you want 2 T connecters and 4 end caps. They will do the rest. Ask if they have scrap pieces that you can get cheaper. There are plans on line to get the right lengths.

Ann, if you could have seen the guy who I tried to get some help from, you would roll over laughing again! All I asked him to do was to cut a long copper pipe (to use as wallhanging holders). He looked at me kind of funny when I told him the pipe was for my art work but he agreed to cut it in half. That’s it. Now I can just see myself returning and asking for special lengths of cut PVC, and oh-- the T’s, and oh-- the connectors and the end caps. ;-00

Go on, it will give him something to talk about in the break room. Not everyone can get cheap entertainment at work.

Those big places are awful Cathy. Do you not have a smaller merchant? Or do know your local plumber? You could ask him for some offcuts, he'll no doubt have some connectors kicking about in his van too, the end caps aren't necessary.

Cathy, I feel your pain! I hate those big-box stores. First of all, you have to traverse a poorly- marked cavern to find what you're looking for. Then, everything is so specialized and poorly marked (did I mention that already?) that it's hard to find what you need. Then, if you can find the correct bin, you have to **hope** that what is in the bin is REALLY what is marked (poorly). And, God forbid you find someone to help - they're all in the break room laughing at how some crazy artist spent way too much on a copper rod to hang their art when an aluminum one would have done just as well. If you've gotten this far, then you have to find a checker. That's the person at the head of the looong line. All the other checkers are computers that can't help you when the poorly-marked item does not scan correctly. I've felt your pain.

What a saga Elizabeth, ours are similar in some ways but all staff MUST greet a customer when they see one and ask if they can help and fortunately in our nearest one they are mostly mature with experience in most hardware items.Yes the badly marked shelves and unpriced items seem to be endemic.
I just got home from Spotlight (100klm round trip)after buying some hat fixings and ribbons ( quite a lot as some were on special at good prices- I thought, and when I looked at the docket I realised I paid three times more for a length of woven belting than I meant to, so it must have been on the wrong shelf. Expensive mistake as it won't work on the hat anyway it is too stiff, then I thought maybe I could wet and soften it - but no it is made of stuff like seatbelt weaving and is synthetic so won't soften at all.It was the only thing in hot pink I could find that 'might' work too.

Lesson learned Marilyn , check my docket before I leave the area next time ,though I doubt they would have credited me the amount as it was cut from a roll.

We've all done it Sue. Perhaps you can find someone who needs something like that. It sounds like it might be good for a belt or purse handle.
