Saw this today on a Facebook Page (International Felting School Online) - It is 69 euro or $75.00 - this seems a bit expensive for a tutorial to me. Your opinions? voilokonline.ru/wppage/talikova-angl/

Very interesting class Frances. I don't think it's that expensive if you get support during the process along with the videos. I think Fiona charges as much for an online lamp class. Perhaps we should consider adding a similar class to our school.

I agree Marilyn, $75 for 3 hours of video and a pdf manual seems reasonable (assuming the teaching is good quality), it takes a lot of effort to put these things together, videos are especially difficult to update too.

Fair deal, Frances, in my opinion. I took that lamp class in person from Fiona Duthie, along with a garment class. I think it was Felt United 2014 in Quebec. But the main thing is quality of instruction. If you are getting videos as well, and support--seems like a bargain to me.

Thank you Ladies - I have just purchased some books and a couple of tutorials that were less than $75. I am going to keep it in mind for the future as I have enough on my plate right now. But it really looks interesting.

It sounds at least $100 to cheap to me if you can learn to make pieces like that.
It is not easy to put a tutorial together, small ones take a couple of months at the very least. You're not just making a few things, you have to stop and take photos at every stage, or re-do the stages, and I'm sure there are lots of takes and re-takes for videos too. Editing, writing, making it understandable to many nationalities, proof reading, rewriting, etc. And there's no guarantee anyone will buy it, so you worked unpaid for all that time and might receive no rewards.

They look very interesting! That gives me some ideas to try. I don't need any lampshades, but I like the technique. If you come up with an online class here, I would be interested in taking it.

I was looking at that one too. It would be interesting to see how she works. I like to see how other people work and do things. I just don't have the money at the moment.

Thanks Frances, that looks fantastic. I didn't think I was interested in lampshades, but now I am!

Frances, I kind of was with you on that cost. I've since seen the light. (aargh! no pun was intended !! ) I wonder how it compares with Fiona Duthie's surface design as far as techniques covered.. I was planning to try that sometime this year.

I think Fiona offers a lampshade online course too, I am sorely tempted but have already signed up to 4 felting workshops and night school for dress making this year so I should probably cut up my credit card mow

It's not what you spend, Teri, it's what you save! Everyone should immerse themselves in the first quarter challenge, make your own light shades with your own ideas!
