Thank you Teri. I thoroughly soak the paper for a few hours, then I make a sort of 'club sandwich' stacking alternate layers of paper and plant matter. I usually do 4 - 6 sheets, then make them into a further sandwich with 2 pieces of wood, place on the floor and stand on them then bind them very tightly before steaming. With handmade paper, I feel the sheets wouldn't separate and my 'sandwiches' might become 'cake'.

I see what you mean, what if you put grease proof / baking parchment / cling film between the layers? Would that stop them from welding to each other? Do you mind my asking what plant materials you used, I'd quite like to have a play but understand if it's a bit of trade secret

That's what I always used with my sculpture pieces.

It possibly would, but I don't think I'll be going down that route for these. I've already taken over far more than my fair share of the house - and garage.

If we had any plant matter left, I'd be tempted to try it. I'll try to remember for next year. I tried to print some silk at the end of summer and it was a disaster.
