Thanks to my husband who has patiently made one with plastic combs which I broke on first trial!........
then re-made using metal combs.
There seems to be quite an art to pulling the wool off evenly and without getting 'stuck' somewhere. And I don't particularly want stripes so I'm experimenting with laying the wool on in mixed layers rather than a layer of each colour in turn.
I have never used either combs or a hackle but I have friends that do. they tell me the hackles and combs made form nails can be a cheap way to try them out but real professionally made ones are much better. They are stronger. It is very easy to bend the tines. they make a tool for straitening them. certainly cheaper works for me when I want to try something out. Now maybe your wood workers can make you better ones too. There must be instructions on what to use and how to make them.
