I was considering it. I applied, was accepted and so on. But when it come to reality I reconsidered and didn't proceed. The first thing which put me off was that it so American orientated! I mean no offence but I have no intention to bother with understanding of American tax system, postals etc. I just have no time for that! If they opened in August as promised I'd think differently (may be!), but not in mid October. Too busy for it. And of course the blog post author is right - it's not for individual craftmakers but for small businesses. Shame actually, my ETSY shop is very quiet... Thank you Ruth for the article!

Like most I considered Amazon and dismissed it due to the monthly charge but it was very interesting reading this bloggers take on it, she also wrote a follow up post that indicated you would be competing with the Far East on price, very few of us can even cover the cost of materials at those prices, let alone be compensated for the time taken to make each piece. Reading these post have confirmed my initial instinct to give Amazon a wide berth.
Thanks for posting Ruth, it was a very interesting read.

Appreciate the post, Ruth. I made my decision awhile ago not to join Amazon Handmade, mostly due to the high fees. The seller of handmade items has a tough way to go. Seems to be no real choice out there except Etsy.

You do have to read the fine print on everything.

I do not care much about Amazon's infringement of my copyrights or exploiting pictures of my work etc... I just feel that there is no way I can produce that many items a month to cover their fees and compete with "small busineses" in handmade. It's sad but apparently real handmade will always be left behind.

That doesn't just say they can use your pictures. It says they can have your product made by someone else and sell it with no compensation to you.

They would just steal a photo of your design and then use it to print on other products that could be made in China.
