I was going to do an update, but can't find any of my previous threads.
I posted about the first class on my last blog post: feltingandfiberstudio.com/2015/09/04/art-therapy-roving-and-wet-felting-class/
We had the second class on Wednesday, it was a little bit more structured, or the plan was anyway
We worked on doing a neat layout and used a template and then me and Joyce (who runs the class) did a quick demo of felting a piece, showing how to align wispy fibres and stroke them for neater edges, and how to use a bamboo mat and throw in the sink for texture.
I forgot to take photos, but there were lots of really nice pieces made.
It's hard to know just how to get the right balance between trying to be a good teacher and making sure everyone gets to learn the skills they'll need for all the things they'd like to make; and making sure everyone enjoys it.
I asked if everyone would have a think about what they'd like to make so we can make sure we cover any skills or techniques, and one of the group was helping me tidy up afterwards and we were just talking about the classes and I asked her what she'd like to get out of the classes and she said to meet people, have a natter and a good time. It reminded me what it is really all about
We decided that next week we're going to make small panels to put together and make a wall hanging, we're going to pick a colour theme for the felt, and I've put together some little bags of embellishments, a strip of silk, some cotton scrim and gauze and a different dyed fibre in each bag, so everyone has something similar but can choose how they use it, fun with a sneaky bit of learning thrown in.
I'll try to remember photos, but a lot of us discovered we're all from the same small town, so the nattering did already become a priority
