Oh my goodness what a slow process this has been, I have fought with myself to get the hang of this crochet skill - I can now proudly delcare that I know how to hold the wool, and being the brave adventrous type that I am I got a pattern and started - two of the bits were crocheted sitting outside my tent in the Scottish Highlands :-) Here is the pattern Here is my starting point And here is the spot :-)

Carole, I can't understand how you could take your eyes off that beautiful scenery long enough to crochet! I'm completely jealous! That's a great start on the crochet piece. I once did a similar pattern for snowflake ornaments. I never have learned to hold the yarn 'correctly' for crochet or knitting.

The view was stunning, but got eaten alive by midges, there are pages and pages about the Scottish midge, we tried, BBQ smoke, citronella, strongest jungle formula - in two forms, a scarf over my head and face, citronella sticks, a cream that someone in the village guaranteed would stop them!!! mosi nets no good because they are so small they can fly through the holes - forget it. But I thouht you might like this wee ditty www.voicesnet.org/displayonepoem.aspx?poemid=233166

Yikes! In that case, it's amazing you were able to crochet that much while dodging the midges. Thanks for the wee ditty.

Very pretty ... Both view and crochet, but I really don't envy you the midges! I've been playing with felting crochet ... But no great results so far!

Penguin, that's partly my motivation to add to felting projects, I expect it's quite difficult

That's why I learned knitting (and why I bought a crochet hook with the intention of learning) I haven't found the right combo of yarn and needles for what I want yet though.
