I gave one of the palette builders a try, and I have to admit there are colors shown that I simply could not see, but there is also a color or two missing…the gold color, for one. ozarks 2 by catwycliff, on Flickr I used the Moda pallete builder… see below the colors they chose.

Cathy I tried it with a photo also and really did not like the color choices it came up with. I like what I see with the naked eye much better and am choosing my eyesight over the computer generated eyes to create a piece (if I ever get settled down to make it).

Cathy, I think it has produced a beautiful colour palette, that dusky mauve is definitely in the photo, but I wouldn't have immediately seen it. What I like about the Moda generator (& of course, many of the others) is that you can move the selection points. So if you'd decided you didn't need 3 greens, but you did want a gold, you could click on a point & move it over a gold area.

Cathy, do you suppose it only gives you so many choices? The gold is strong so I think it's surprising it wasn't included.

What builder is it? can you post a link. I didn't notice you could re arrange the colours an any I used. They don't really give you instructions.

What are you using to look at these? Do you have an example of what you call 'gold'? And where it is on that photo?

Here’s the link that Jill provided: blog.modafabrics.com/palette-builder/When I clicked on the circles, hovering over the gold area, the palette builder does offer additional colors, including gold and olive. I also tried one of Ann’s recommendations…palette fx, which also works.

I meant what device. Also people have different ideas of what 'gold' is. I wondered if you had an example, colour block or could show which area of the photo you mean.

I compared some photos on moda and on palettefx. It seems to me that Moda's palette is much more limited because they are suggesting coordinating fabrics from their range of Bella solids for use in patchwork.

Zed, I meant the gold colors in the right half of the photograph. They appear in a large heart shape on the rocky wall. To me they look like lichen, but different from the usual minty green kind you see elsewhere in the photo. Device? I took the photo with my small Canon power shooter and viewed it on my MacBook Air.
Yes, koffipot, I believe you are correct about the Moda line. They are trying to match you up with their fabrics, which is fine if that’s what you are looking at. Palettefx does offer a wider variety of shades. I find them useful as another artist’s tool.

Finally got to felt yesterday and today - an inspiration piece based on the photos I took of my Pink Azeleas and Hostas with different shades of green. Am working on a post for my blog showing/explaining what I did. I am in love with the colors. Hopefully final touches and photos tomorrow with a post here.
