Thanks a lot everyone They're not sending the info pack out till the end of May though (they extended the deadline) so I have no idea what I have to prepare for or what to buy, or if I can sell stuff too etc. Has anyone else done something like this? I'm guessing I'll be stood there in a work area offering to show people how to make felt and they'll make their own piece, but I don't know if it'll just be people casually walking up or more structured, like 'next workshop at 11' etc. I don't know how many pieces to plan for to get enough supplies.

eek! I'm sure you'll be able to find most of this out - it would be good to be able to display your stuff for sale!
Have you already thought of doing A4 or A5 flyers? Anyone interested in your demonstration could be directed to your website and free tutorials via the flyer. No harm either in mentioning your ebooks on the flyer eh?

They had options for 'Maker stations- to show your work and get people making', that sounded like maybe showing and selling supplies, they also had 'commercial' opportunities, so I'm guessing these are stalls, but after the Craft fair experiences and what you said about demos, letting people try etc, Lyn, I thought this was the best option, especially since it's meant to encourage people to get making stuff.
I don't even know if I'm meant to charge!
I've got business cards, I can get some flyers done to, about e-books/tutorials etc, and I was going to ask Richard at WoW if he could send me some of those postcards they include in packages to direct people there for supplies.

When I did one here, it was all demonstrations. You could hand out materials but not sell anything. It wasn't structured at all, people showed up and if they were interested they participated. They didn't tell us how many people would be there. I would estimate we had over 500 people and we were busy all day long. We mainly had kids who wanted to make a piece of felt. We made flowers in a zip lock plastic bag. They laid out their fibers radiating out from the center to form a circle with a couple of different colors, we put it inside the bag, added water and a little soap and had them rub inside the bag. It was so busy we didn't even end up fulling completely. It was like an assembly line along a table. I had Paula helping me (thank goodness). I was at one end helping with layout and she was at the other end, keeping people moving, rubbing etc.
Not sure how they run over the pond but did they have this before? Could you find someone who participated in it before to ask questions now?

That sounds like a nightmare, Ruth!
I think it's new for the Science and Industry museum, but I'm not sure. There was a part on the form which asked how much space we needed, I said each person would need about 2.5-3 feet by 2 feet, and it'd probably work best to keep each session to 6 people.
Maybe they're supposing we know how to run it best. If so, I suppose putting a sign up saying 'Next workshop starts at...' would help. Maybe if I kept each one to an hour and half with a bit of time in between to tidy up/set up, I'd do 3 each day.
That at least gives me an idea about getting supplies. Look out in my etsy afterwards though as I try to sell everything I bought far too much of!
