Hello Cathy, I am not really sure what an "Artist Residency" is all about. Can you explain?? Thanks. The first week of April the Michigan Fiber Festival sends out their catalog of classes coming up in August.. I hope to take a few again this year... Smile. Cathy, when you see the classes posted can you put a quick comment in the 'US Festivals' thread (or whatever it's called)

Frances, have you ever been to SAFF? I'm thinking about going this year. I LOVE that area! I enjoyed your post about 'Georgia red clay'. I grew up in N Alabama and we had plenty of it, too. I remember my Mom trying to get it out of my clothes. Her family is from Atlanta.

Elizabeth, so that would be Judy posting about the Michigan Fiber Festival…I was going to ask her to post as well! Frances, thanks for the wool tours link! And Judy--here is a basic link for artist residency, and you can go from there! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artist-in-residence

Thanks Cathy - I got all mixed up. Frances, forget about SAFF. I just looked at their site (they finally posted classes) and didn't see anything that intrigued me. I'll have to see what Michigan has.

I sent an email about the word tour trip and got this information back - I would love to do it but I would have to find someone to stay with my Hubby as he could not make the trip - Hello! Thank you so much for your message. I’m very happy to learn of your interest in the tour to Great Britain next year! The itinerary is finalized, but the tour company now has to actually confirm the space at our various hotels, etc. Once that is all finalized, I’ll be able to put together complete information including specific pricing. You can find a basic outline of the trip at www.fibergarden.com/travel/britishwooltour/. Regarding pricing, the range will be about $4,000 - 4,800, excluding airfare. This price range is dependent upon the number of people we have in our group. As the group size increases, the cost will go down. So, if we have the minimum number of group members, the cost will be about $4,800. (If you want a single room, there is a $1100 single supplement.) I am committed to keeping the group size fairly small (25 maximum), so the lower end of the price range reflects the maximum number of travelers. I could get the cost lower by allowing more in the group, but people who do the full 48 passenger bus tours tend to feel that it’s too large of a group. We want to be able to get “up close and personal” at our stops and get to know each other well during our trip. So I’ve settled upon the 25 person maximum. I can also tell you that this price is “almost” all-inclusive. It includes 10 nights lodging in quality hotels, all breakfasts, eight dinners, entrance to all of our tour stops and excursions, and a luxury coach with our personal drive and guide. So about the only things that will be left for people to budget for is the lunches and two dinners, plus airfare. (Plus any treasures that you find along the way that you can’t live without!! J) I will work with people to coordinate airfare for people into London and out of Edinburgh as we have group transfers and we will want group members arriving in London within a few hours of each other when possible. Once registration information becomes available, the deposit will only be $250 to reserve your space…so we won’t need to “break the bank” to reserve a space! Final payment won’t be due until early April, 2016, so you have plenty of time to save those pennies! For those that want to avoid the large lump sum payment at the end, I’m happy to work with you to set up a payment plan so you can pay for the trip gradually over the next year. I’m hosting a spinner’s cruise this October and several people are doing the payment method so that by the time the final payment is due, their cruise will have already been fully paid for. The airfare will need to be paid at the point we make the reservation, so that’s one thing that you’d need to be prepared for. Please let me know if you have more questions. I’m happy to help. I will put your note in my “interested” folder and be sure and send an e-mail once the reservation materials and complete trip information are available. And…where are you from and how did you learn about the trip?? (I’m trying to track how the various advertising outlets are working.) Thanks again for writing. Enjoy the weekend and make it a great day! Deb Deb Jones, Owner Fiber Garden LLC www.fibergarden.comwww.facebook.com/thefibergardenwww.facebook.com/fibergardentravels

I don't know about airfare - when she posts the registration information I can post it here or you can send her an email and ask - I would love the trip but would be hesitant to schedule a year in advance due to my hubby's health. He uses a walker or a scooter to get around and can not stand on his on to prepare his meals. I do not go away overnite without someone staying with him. His daughter is going to take off from work and come stay so I can go to a family Wedding in June. Getting excited it will be 2 years in June since I took a trip just for me.

Good for you Frances. It's been four years for me. I'm looking forward to finding a trip to take this year myself. Like you I'm always hesitant to book so far in advance, but for other reasons. Cathy and I are talking about going to Asheville this fall.

I just found out about SAFF and when I looked at the classes last year I almost hopped on a plane the next day! The classes this year are very 'meh' - beginner nuno stuff. I grew up in N Alabama and always loved that area.

Elizabeth if you are looking for a show in the south check out this one - just over the border in Ga from Ala - I will try and remember to post the classes when I get notice of them. I went last year but did not take any classes - It is a small show with a lot of alpaca - since that is a popular breed in this area. They had Hats and Scarves classes I know. www.gafiberfest.com/

We were thinking of taking a class from Lisa Klakulak at Strongfelt in Asheville in the fall. No comittments yet. We'll let you know. Frances, I wasn't aware of that fiber fest in GA either. Will you be going?
