A new beginning:
You haven’t seen much fiber or felt from me lately, as in December I took on a part-time contract job to manage assessments in the Chicago Public Schools, something I have been doing off-and-on since I retired as an educator a few years ago. The job turned out to be full-time, leaving me little or no time for what I really love to do. It was great to be able to “tune in” and see what everyone has been up to these past couple of months.
And then I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago and have been hobbling around, cursing the stairs I missed and the bad weather in Chicago. Coming out of the gloom now, with the ankle healing and the job finished. Phew!
Marilyn brought over her carders on Friday and we had an interesting day of playing with fiber on the drum carder. Posting soon to come. In the meantime, we placed our WOW order. Oh, and I will be making something soon with the beautiful batts.
What have you got planned in March? Wet-felting? Needle-felting? Playing with color? Please share!

I recently discovered that our local hospital has NO toys at all for the kids to play with. & then I thought, how scary for kids having to go into hospital & would it help if they could have a little teddy or something to hold. Hospital says yes. So I'm on a mission to get lots of ladies here busy with knitting simple teddies! We have a very basic teddy pattern, then a really really simple doll pattern, as some had only knitted blanket squares previously! Here are a few I've started with.. not felt, not even wool, just cheap acrylic, but it's still fibre, yes?

How nice of you, Jill. The toys are lovely and I bet children will want to leave hospital taking the toys with them.

Aaw, they're gorgeous, Jill! I still remember the soldier I played with in hospital when I was a baby (dropped on my head, obviously!) one of those Queen's guard types, my sister knitted me one when I was about 10. And right on the shelf above me I have a Paul Power (Man City captain) knitted 'doll' from about 1981. I'm glad you're feeling better, Cathy I finished knitting a rectangle of organza selvedges.

That's really sweet Jill. I'm sure the children will find them very comforting and fun! And yes, acrylic is fiber. ;-)

Yes it's fiber! It is also fabulous. A special toy is wonderful. Our children's hospital give every child a blanket or quilt. When my grandson was in for jaundice I found out they are chronically short of "boy" coloured ones. Everything was pink and purple princess stuff. Now my weavers and spinners guild is weaving some up for them in more neutral colours. Some ladies are doing some quilts too. They call them Linus blankets.

See, no one likes pink, not even girly girls who like princesses

My daily dose yesterday was taking photos right after breakfast because I forgot it was my turn for a blog post I saw the date as I was eating and thought 'Ooh, there should be a new blog post today, I wonder what it's about?' it slowly dawned on me as I was scrolling down and saw everyone's name before getting to my last post!
