The only fiber I have had contact with is in fabric and paper. Made hat bands and tags for 8 hats - unfortunately when the hats arrived the existing bands were sewn on with two rows of stitching - time consuming to get them off. But another Flower Show Task marked off the list. Hello Frances. Your sun Patriotic Hats look great... I am sure they will be enjoyed by all. I need to get a sun hat to wear while I am down in Florida. Not to many choices now here in Michigan so I decided to wait until I get there to find one.. Only one more week from today and we are on our way... Huge smile.. I can hardly wait to leave all this snow behind.. Judy be sure to take a couple of Felt Flowers with you to adorn your hat. Was 26 degrees here this am but 48 and Sunny now! Keep us posted on your trip. Frances

If you happen to be in the same place you'll recognise each other

Here are my 2 latest learning experiences. The first is a cobweb scarf, I guess. it's from Paradise Fibers and is an Ashford Merino-silk blend (80/20) in 'Gemstone'. I was not thrilled with the colors when I got them -- too Red/white/and blue. The final result seems a bit fragile. There are a few voids and very thin places. Before felting it was about 10" wide. I don't know if that's the nature of the beast or operator error. The next one was a scarf I was trying to make for my wool-averse sister using silk strips and minimum alpaca. It was way too thin so I added merino to the back of it. Tough luck, sis! feltingandfiberstudio.files.wordpress.com/2016/09/dz30jjdfrzpsm5ml23it.jpgfeltingandfiberstudio.files.wordpress.com/2016/09/2w8if4qcwjfguldqz8fw.jpg

Elizabeth - your two scarves are very nice. Cobweb is called that because it is very thin with holes. It is supposed to be that way. If it is fulled enough it should hold up well. People who are wool-averse generally have not had a fine merino wool against their skin. Most people aren't allergic, just had a coarser wool experience.

Lovely scarves Elizabeth - cobweb felt is surprisingly strong, also a scarf doesn't have to be as hard-wearing as a pair of slippers eh?
It's true that a lot of people who find wool itchy can tolerate merino wool.

Yeh. I was going to send it to her anyway and tell her to donate it for a charity auction if she couldn't wear it. I'm working on another scarf for her that's just silk strips sewn, not felted. (shaken, not stirred?? )

Your scarves are both very nice, I especially like the alpaca and silk one, lovely colours and textures there. I'm sure there's a good chance your sister will be converted.

Both scarves are lovely Elizabeth. I made a couple this past holiday. I wear mine and love it. Although, next time I will make it shorter. The whole point of cobweb is the lacy effect with holes. :-) Ruth is right about people having the harsh wool experience. That used to be me. Look at me now!

Great scarves. Maybe forget to tell her it's got wool on it? All I have made inn the last few days is small felt balls for a bubble bracelet. Here they are on top of my laptop.

The scarves are nice, Elizabeth, especially the one for your sister. Something I read recently said there has never been a proven case of a wool allergy. It might be irritating, but can't your own hair be at times? Yeah, if you use 'slipper wool' for a scarf, it's going to be scratchy and itchy, If anyone finds fine Merino, alpaca, yak, or camel itchy, they probably live in a bubble with an epi pen.

Hello Elizabeth.
Both scarfs are very pretty. I especially love the pastel color one..
Ann, I look forward to seeing how you use the felted ball on your jacket.

Just finished a cushion: merino wool and margilan silk used under the resist in the middle. Just wanted to see what margilan silk looks like on felt. I bought it from a Bulgarian shop but it originates from Uzbekistan (meanwhile, unfortunately, the shop has been closed down). This silk is so delicate, with beautiful lustre. I still have several metres and want to use it for a good purpose.http://www.ipernity.com/doc/724735/37016598

Nada, the pillow is lovely. The white is silk? That looks like fine wool.
