Hello everyone, I have been talking with a store that sells Ashford Drum Carders... What do you all think of Ashford Products?? Does anyone have a Ashford Carder??? I am am thinking it would be best to buy the Ashford XW drum carder because I like useing the batts in wet felting.. But she seems to think the New Ashford Wild Carder which is very narrow . Photos below. What do you all think?? I would appreciated any and all advise??? I think I would get more use with the wider one??

Ashford products are good. I would go with the wide one.

I have an Ashford carder (the wide one) and I'm happy with it. Storage is always tight with equipment isn't it? I use a plastic storage box, minus lid and placed upside down, as a cover (had to cut a slot for the handle). There's room under the carder and within the box to store the carder's 'bits and pieces'. It means that I can place light 'stuff' on top of the carder when it's not in use and the cover keeps it clean.

I agree with Ruth and Lyn, go wide if you want consistent larger amounts to felt and make layout easier.

I agree with the ladies go wide. if you want a narrow bat you can do it on the wide one and if you want roving you take it off with a diz. a wide one is much more versatile.

I'd agree with a wide one. The price of the wild carder here is very expensive, so I can only guess it's similar there, and I personally can't see the benefit of it unless you're piling locks on. Also, the batts on a regular one make quite a thick batt, like at least two layer thickness, any thicker seems like it wouldn't be great for felting. ( I should say that's on the presumption the batts end up more like wide tops)

Judy, I can’t give you advice because I don’t have a carder, but now I am going through carder-envy again, as I do every time this discussion comes up.

Seems like it would be versatile. You can get different drums later if you want to card something different.

Not brave enough to hand over my hard earned cash, so I have loaned one from the Guild :-) it's a large drum so I should get some large batts from it.
