Working with a Resist to make a Seamless Garment
Since there seems to have been a lot of talk on this topic on the Wet Felting Forum recently, I thought I’d try to make the following sources as a file people could refer to. Pat Spark
Making Patterns for a Seamless Garment
There is a great book by Phyllis Hoffman where she gives step by step instructions for creating the pattern for making felt garments. She uses the three basic methods of felt garment making:
1. Making yardage and cutting a vest out of the yardage and sewing it together.
2. Making separate template pieces and sewing them together after they have been felted down to the correct size.
3. Making a seamless felt garment. She has many examples. She shows you how to take the measurements from your own body and create the pattern from them. The book is called Felt Vests, A Step by Step Guide. www.melbournebooks.com.au/uploads/8/0/1/2/8012093/info_feltedvestslowres.pdf
4 Another person who has made a book on creating felt garments is Kathy Hays. She has two ebooks on the subject which are described here: kathyhaysdesigns.blogspot.com/
6. At the etsy shop of Lubov Voronina, she has patterns, including some for a plus sized figure. Just go down the menu to find the various patterns. www.etsy.com/listing/161327904/patterns-for-wet-felting?ref=shop_home_feat_4
More Information on the Seamless Vests and Garments of Lubov Voronina
7. Here is a link to one of Lubov Voronina articles translated into English: translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=ru&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.livemaster.ru%2Ftopic%2F316569-staryj-drug-zhilet-chast-1&sandbox=1
I like that the above article is the first in a series where Voronina uses the same vest pattern in the same size but with different layouts to test how the layout affects the drape and general shaping of the finished garment. Notice the circular layout around the breast area.
8. The second vest in the series, with an X layout. (Gives a lot of bias after felting) translate.google.com/translate?act=url&depth=1&hl=en&ie=UTF8&prev=_t&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=ru&tl=en&u=http://www.livemaster.ru/topic/319749-staryj-drug-zhilet-chast-2
9. Another version of the vest, with layout that causes specific shrinkage in certain areas. translate.google.com/translate?act=url&depth=1&hl=en&ie=UTF8&prev=_t&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=ru&tl=en&u=http://www.livemaster.ru/topic/325049-staryj-drug-zhilet-chast-3
10. And this is the 4th vest in the series. translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=ru&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.livemaster.ru%2Ftopic%2F334869-staryj-drug-zhilet-chast-4%3Fmsec%3D75%3F&sandbox=1
