Cathy, the blanket stitch and ball really finish it off nicely!

Thanks all for your nice comments about the slippers! I enjoyed making them and found them easier to make than I first anticipated. A little more blanket stitching--yes, Lyn! Judith, Nanti Mountain is one of the three “sacred” mountains in the Nikko area of Japan. I also very much enjoyed touring this beautiful country…would love to be there in cherry blossom season! fuji-tours.com/tours/nikko-w.html

Thanks Cathy, I said it reminded me of Nikko, so you've obviously portrayed it very well. We visired there in autumn. You really must visit for Hanami (Cherry Blossom Time). It's breathtakingly beautiful - I really can't find a superlative worthy of the sight. I've been thinking I might dig out some photos and make it my next project.

You probably have some lovely photos of Japan, Judith, and in several different seasons to boot! You should really give it a go. I use photos or memories of vacation spots for many of my needle-felted/wet-felted landscapes. I don’t know if I’ll have a chance to return, but I would love to see Japan at a slower pace and in a different season.

I've been fortunate to see Sakura in bloom in Sapporo when our son was married there in 2007. There is nothing like it. I've also been in DC During Cherry blossom time. Not the same,

Great pieces Frances! Beech leaves are so beautiful and your trees are wonderful. It's always good to have some unusual props to add interest to a talk. Thanks for the glycerine tip. Marilyn - my son had been working in Tokyo for about 3 years and decided to take a sabbatical year in Sapporo to study and improve his Japanese and at the same time, take advantage of their long ski-ing season.
