Beginning a new dally dose thread, which I will now do monthly so that the pages aren’t too many. I took some photos of the outdoors when I was on the Felting Retreat at Meech Lake, Quebec, in early October. The leaves were just beginning to turn, but there were also spots of green. This is my typical wet-felted landscape size of 13” x 17” to which I added a bit of dark brown wool yarn for branch details. As I began to hand-embroider, I became unsure of the direction for the handwork. I took a photo (below) to get a different view and realized that all of those dark spots look like bats flying through the trees, giving the work a Halloween-ish effect, which I definitely don’t want. Any suggestions on how to proceed? Autumn at Meech Lake, Quebec by catwycliff, on Flickr

I don't see bats! It's a really beautiful piece, very autumnal but Hallowe'enish at all!

Thanks, Judith! It’s really amazing how short-sighted we can become when viewing our own work, which is one of the reasons why I appreciate participation in the Forum!

I don't see bats either. Perhaps try defining a few of the leaves some more. I think it's beautiful and very fallish not Halloween.

I don't see bats either. I immediately thought of our tamarack pine trees when I saw this photo.

Ok, good--none of you see bats. Maybe I am going batty! (sorry, couldn’t resist)

If you hadn't said you saw bats I wouldn't have. Just bead or stich over them to stop them looking like bats to you.

Cathy - no bats but I love the gold & black stitiching and/or beading - I thought I was looking at a pile of fall leaves with pretty caterpillars crawling through them - I wanted reach out and pick one up - beautiful work. We all have different visions when we look at art.

Thank you, Frances. I appreciate your comments. And Ann, thanks for the tips. Going back to work on the autumnal scene with more embroidery!

I saw caterpillars too. Perhaps they're silkworms!

Cathy I see No Bats... A very pretty Autumn look. I would add lots of embroidery and beads. Like Judith and Frances says adding Caterpillars and leaves embroidery shapes would be neat..

Thanks, Judy…def embroidery, but I am not too handy with the beads, although I love the effect. They seem to slip out of my fingers and end up all over the floor.
Koffipot, those are silkworms, of course!

This has been a busy week - I completed a nuno felted scarf (posted under nuno felting), my postcard and a little ornament to go with it and then really had fun making a Snowman. I wrote up the directions for making the Snowman and sent them to Ruth to post on the main page if she thinks it is appropriate. If she is not going to use it I will post under wet felting so you will have to wait a day or two to see it. I think my next project will be using this pile of lushness’ which I purchased at the alpaca festival. feltingandfiberstudio.files.wordpress.com/2016/09/s2tdrfjmbtr8dgzkxcnt.jpgI plan to make a scarf but really want more of a triangle shape so when I wear it will partially cover the back of the garment I am wearing. I do not want it very thick but do not want holes in it either. I purchased one package which is labeled as 4 ounces but it looks like more than that so I hope it will be enough if not I can always add to it. Would love to have enough to make a flower and a hat band for a red felt hat I already have. I do not want to make a square because it would be heavier than I want when folded into a triangle. So first I need to draw out a pattern on the back side of some bubble wrap. Actually I will have to tape bubble wrap together to make a large enough piece – so off to the $ store again to by more bubble wrap. Any suggestions on this project will be appreciated. Hope all is well with you folks.

The Snowman tutorial by Frances will be posted tomorrow on the studio website so stop by and take a look. I have been working on my online class some more. No photos of that though.

Francis I think for the way you want to wear it the best shape would be a chevron. With the inner middle point being rounded. that way it will sit nicely on your shoulders and hang down to a point in the middle of your back. that should be enough to make a small shawl.
