This is what I found on the net and looks so simple www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8u_Or5vIrM . I believe one can improvise and make their own hackle maybe drawing long nails through a wooden board, or fixing knitting needles?) What do you think? Have any of you used this device?

Have never used that device--the hackle--but I have seen primitive ones for sale on Ebay. To me, they look a bit dangerous.

Nada, I made mine out of plastic combs. I've only used it briefly for blending. Now at I have the drum carder, I doubt I'll need it. The carder for me was a better investment. It takes much less time to use. Others may feel differently.
I can't find the link, but will post a pic later of what I have. The nails would probably be sturdier, but sharper. I use a button for a Diz.

Of course, a drum carder is much better and once you have it you won't even look at the hackle, but for beginners, like myself, I think this is a wonderful solution and requires minimal investment. Let's see what others say.

It still won't play to the end for me, but from what I saw upto poking the wool through the button, it looks clever.

you can use anything with a hole a s a diz. Mine is cut out of the side of a yogurt container. people use buttons and shells and all sorts of things. you can buy fancy ones too if you want them.

Nada, do you have dollar stores there? Or a beauty supply store may have them.

Marilyn, yes, we have similar stores and some Chinese stores too. I'll have a look there first. Thanks for your suggestion.

They are afro picks. I had one back when I had curly hair for a year.

Hello Marilyn. I had a bit if a giggle this AM when I saw your clever creative comb hackle.. In my younger days I used those combs all the time with my perm curls...very big smile..
Hello Ann, for the first time this pass weekend I saw a hole made inside of a wooden button used for creating roving from batt made on a carder.. I thought how great is that... I believe it was a hand carved wooden button for the sole purpose to make roving. Pretty neat to see.
